IF I believed this guy who was demoted and shuffled off to the "counter terrorism backwaters" (cyber attacks) -- I have two thoughts:
1 -- If the talks started after 9/11, then O'Neill is a an out and out liar.
2 -- We attacked Afghanistan first so who gives a $h*t what was discussed. Many things "get discussed", but what actions were taken is what counts.

Anyone that does not think Saddam would help the terrorists - and was helping the terrorists - is a fool. And what is the surprise that 9/11 was the impetus for our actions in Iraq, or for that matter any other effort related to making our country more secure.
People had better wake up. We are definitely in a war. Sadly, I fear that we are in for a very rude awakening - as if 9/11 were not already enough - that will shake all but the most foolish into realize this is the fight of our life.
To those liberals that say with utopian glint in their eye that there must be another way than war, certainly there is. It is called surrender.
Liberal women dreamers, surrender your swimsuits, your short pants, your open neck blouses and pull out you scarves to cover your head. To the liberal men - those that are not already bearded - start growing your whiskers because you will not be allowed to shave.

They seem to think that there is an an "in-between".
They still don't get it.

No, it was Don Senor, the Coalition spokesman, who said there was a definitive link between Al-Qaeda and Iraqi intelligence.

Far to many people (mostly on the left) are nit-picking this war, for either personal or political reasons.

Thanks! Like others I'm always on the lookout for "definitive link between Al-Qaeda and Iraqi intelligence". Actually that's not quite true, I'm looking for a headline in the NY Times saying there's a "definitive link between Al-Qaeda and Iraqi intelligence". I'm not however going to hold my breath waiting.

This is the first time I've heard it coming from a Bush Administration official. They obviously have something big, otherwise they wouldn't have mentioned it. The nexus is Damascus.

I don't get it... first O'Neill says Bush was planning to liberate Iraq 10 days after his inauguration, and now Clarke says Bush was planning to liberate Iraq after 9/11? lol

The war plan always existed just as there are war plans for almost everywhere. The are updated every once in a while. None of the planning starts in the WH.
