I was surprised that no media have reported this. It's apparently an FR scoop of sorts.
"The Republican National Committee next week will launch something they call a "flog". It's a fact log. And for those of you who are interested in the facts and the discussion of the facts, for people who believe that the records have been distorted or will be distorted, for people who are concerned that they're listening to something that they believe to be inaccurate, the Republican National Committee, through its flog, will provide an information source will people can find the facts in an easy log form and occassionally they may 'flog' someone." -- Bush-Cheney Campaign Mgr. Ken Mehlman, 3/19/04

I've never seen a flog so I have no idea what this is going to look like. It'll be a first in politics and the web as far as I can tell.

"The Republican National Committee next week will launch something they call a "flog". It's a fact log.And "flog" is an apt description of what the facts are gonna do to John Kerry's candidacy.

"occassionally they may 'flog' someone."
What exactly leads to someone being "flogged", and what exactly does it entail? The article is very vague.

Sounds like a blog typo.

Beat them (flog them) with the facts. "Them" being the Dem distorters.

I don't need this service. The rule is easy - if I heard it through the "media", it's not true. Another rule of thumb is that you take anything the lying libs tell you, and reverse it to get the truth.
E.g. Bush is a moron - turned on its head, Bush is really smart. And he IS smart, despite an unfortunate tendency to anger his base.

No, it's a fact log. Not a web log.

There is a site called "Free Republic" that is an excellent example of a flog (a tremendous amount of facts are listed and distortions are discussed in detail). I don't have url handy, but will try to find.

The article is a complete transcript of Mehlman's discussion of this. This is all we have, but I thought it interesting. Also, he announced that he was making news with this and, yet, the media have ignored it completely.

When you listen to Mehlman talking about what a blog is during this speech, you think he's talking about FR. It's clear that BC04 wants to have its own version of FR. Someone should tell them that JimRob has already turned the site over to them. They missed the memo.

A flog ? These guy's should leave being hip to other folks and focus on politics.
A fact log is a good idea but naming it a flog is just dumb.

If the Kerry campaign had come out with the exact same idea... Every Network News cast and Front page news story tommorow would be beaming with "Kerry campaign fights back against Bush attack machine!". Then they would fill the articles with rampant bias and editorializing.

I'm sure it would have. I am not sure whether Mehlman expected the media to cover this major news announcement or whether he wanted it to stay on the "down low" until next week. If he wanted coverage of this, he should have made a bigger deal about it with press releases and an announcement at the GWB.com site. As I said, it's dead silence on this from the news media based on a search I did. That's bad PR management by the BC04 team.

You don't want the media top say "Bush Flog a Flop," I guess. The other thing is that Blog is a contraction of the last letter of the first word and then "log" rather than the first letter as BC04 have done with this new term.

For crying out loud, you wouldn't want it to say tlog, would you? (Using your example of using the last letter of the first word. I think Flog is a perfectly fine "word" to describe a Facts Log. This will be a great resource. Sign me up.
To: afraidfortherepublic
I'm not suggesting they change the contraction. I was replying to someone else's post.
