Tonight is the one-year anniversary of the commencement of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Where are all the Sit Room regulars?! I thought it might be a good idea to resurrect the Situation Room for a "reunion". Does anyone still have a ping list?

I just walked by the TV and they were showing that camera on ACHMED's PARKING GARAGE! (Alas, no Achmed). No hammering could be heard at the time. I haven't seen any "traffic circle" shots yet, but they'll have to show them eventually.

But PRETTY CHICKEN was one of the correspondents recalling where he was that night (under his bed)!

I enjoyed chatting with everybody last year. It was amazing how a group of people could channel surf, webcam surf, and report quickly back on FR what was going on.

I will never forget Bellygirl. She was outstanding, and helped start each day off with a bang.

Achmed always seemed to appear somewhere on the baghdad cam.

I also laugh at people who would report bombing when wind would hit the microphone of the cameras.

Also, when a bomb would hit nearby, I loved the expressions of people immediately on the thread... it was usually "holy sh!t!! what was that?"

The war was somethign else for me. I could not get over the rate of speed news could travel. I salute those of you who stayed up with me each night (which was when I was on) reporting the progress of our brave troops/embedded reporters/and news anchors who worked long hours at FNC/MSNBC/(hate to mention CNN). Watching people like Leventhal and Ollie was amazing. Hearing those daunting sirens going off in Kuwait always caught my attention and made me stop what I was doing to watch.

And to top it all off, I will never forget the morning Baghdad fell. Somehow I woke up several hours before I usually would and got up to turn the tv on. FNC was reporting that reporters were venturing out in Baghdad b/c the officials had left. I stayed glued to the tv and computer and watched our guys roll into that city.

All of a sudden the greatest image of the Iraq war came when this big ass Bluto looking MF was whacking away with a sledgehammer at that statue. When those guys couldn't pull it down, in come the US troops to yank that big tall ugly MF statue which I had to look at every single day during that war down. Seeing those people jump on it and rip the head off, cheering and pulling hte head around the circle gave me chills. Seeing people enjoy freedom for the first time was a sight to see.

Again, thanks to all who helped out and started those threads. I remember it like it was yesterday, and I'm glad I shared it with everybody here.

I'm more of a Keebler fan then a LOTR fan. LOL! I have the LOTR books, but I haven't read them yet and I don't want to see the films until I read the books. Whenever I see that one of the movies is on cable I zoom past the channel so I won't be tempted to watch it. LOL

Okay, now I am on a wanker list mission. I know I have it someplace, but it's not on my work computer. I looked through old FReepmails and it's not there either. I have one last place to look at home and I'm hoping it will be there.

For a while I had my tagline as a Principal Skinner quote from The Simpsons that reminded me of the Situation Room:

Greg has been on the last couple of days talking about how the journalists (and the soldiers too) were scared sh!tless before that recon in force mission (Into B-diddy) and two or four of them stayed behind. Only minutes later they were hit by a missile and all killed. I never heard that at the time.

Oh boy. lol. Each time I read these posts I remember things I forgot. One day at at tiiiiiiiiiiiime, sweet Jesus. Was the whisk that goofy commercial with that lady?? The flat whisk?

Hey, who was the British chick reporter who got on the bagdad cam outside the hotel that one day and kept screaming into the mic to the producer telling him that she was not Peter Arnett?

I also remember Shep Smith going off on people (some on FR were spouting this stuff) who were writing to him after some reporters were killed in baghad saying they deserved to be killed. He named one person by name during that rant.

Reviewing those threads has renewed my wish that we had an ALARM on FR! I first thought this when rumors of Saddam's capture started at 4AM and I wanted everyone on FR to WAKE UP!

Only problem, if the Sit Room had an alarm none of us would have gotten a wink of sleep for two months!

Series question for everyone:

Throughout that time, the hugh mystery was: what's going on in the western desert. We knew SpecOps were out there, but there was hardly any coverage. We assumed they were taking out scud sites to prevent attacks on Israel.

Has anyone ever heard anything more about those operations?
