THE SITUATION ROOM (Operation Iraq Freedom) 1 YR AGO
9/19/04 | Timeout

Posted on 03/19/2004 6:42:48 PM PST by Timeout

Tonight is the one-year anniversary of the commencement of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Where are all the Sit Room regulars?! I thought it might be a good idea to resurrect the Situation Room for a "reunion". Does anyone still have a ping list?

I just walked by the TV and they were showing that camera on ACHMED's PARKING GARAGE! (Alas, no Achmed). No hammering could be heard at the time. I haven't seen any "traffic circle" shots yet, but they'll have to show them eventually.

But PRETTY CHICKEN was one of the correspondents recalling where he was that night (under his bed)!

By the way, the Phallic Girl's name is SoldiersGirl. She last posted in August. Her hubby is home safely, I understand from her posts.

She's probability too busy with her home minaret to post these days...

Hey Nully! (and the rest of you as well)

thanks for the ping and a load of memories.

Had a hard year, but managed to hang on to the "villa" :-))

Glad to be back online and seeing old friends.

God Bless all of you and please keep the soldiers and thier families in your prayers - and - most importantly - let us use this chance to remember all of those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

FreeRegards

During the events, my depature notice probably went unnoticed.

I lost my job! Came as a major shock - here today, gone tomorrow. I spent the next six months just getting my life back in order (wife, three kids, house, etc...).

Finally back amoung the living and can spend occasional time at FR.

(PS - sorry about the last tagline - forgot to delete it from a previous post)

No. It was noticed and commented on.

I've been between jobs for two years myself. Still looking. I've got a good lead, a contracting gig that *might* go permanent.

I figured your tag line wasn't for us...

Thanks for the ping! I'm a little late to the reunion, but I'm glad timeout put this thread together. (Dolly, we were just talking about this the other day.)
I saw a quick little report this morning on MSNBC
"Bagdad Bob...where is he now?" It was hilarious! They played some of his greatest hits, I was ROFLMAO.
He is now on a Abu Dabi television show as a regular.
Last year at this time, I was a newbie. I made so many great FRiends here, we spent so much time laughing, crying, praying together. I even got some great recipes too!!
One friend I made here ironically dropped me a quick hello this morning. Cheney Chick is in Bagrahm and unfortunately cannot participate with us for security reasons....But she said to make sure to say hello to everyone for her!
God Bless our Troops!

I remember SHOCK AND AWE. Ragtime Cowgirl becoming a freeper legend in being able to post word for word ....what was being said at the CentCom briefings.

I remember booing the reporters at the morning briefing before having our first cup of coffee.

We had some highs and lows ......but we got each other thru it.

Hey Dog! That was the best! I love that the media is still calling him Bagdad Bob....it was a FReeper that gave him that nic, right?
I gotta go bowling now, but I'm gonna check back later to catch up with everyone.

I was the same was as a newbie Jackie.. I also participated in the ATRW thread (and still do)..

I learned HTML (the little I know) here & also made many friends.. many of whom I have already "face to faced"..

What is Cheney Chick doing in Afghanistan? Is she in the military? You might not be able to share anything/much but I did enjoy exchanging posts with her over the months also ...

I had a rough summer & so did not come to the weekly threads too often.. lost track of lots of people.. and now & then see them at Finest, Dose or any one of a number of misc threads.

But there was a uniqueness of day & night being there together & watch the events unfold, the pressers, the deaths, the victories, the polytoons & pictures... I recall getting very little sleep. My computer is right next to my bed .. and I wasn't in the bed much.

not too soon after that he dropped out of sight & there were rumors of his suicide .. which turned out to be false.. the poor guy couldn't even turn himself into coalition authorities.. we didn't want him.

If he got a US agent,he could prolly have a good income here.

I was calling Robert Fisk Baghdad Bob, but it didn't catch on. He was the parallel to Axis Sally and Tokyo Rose, but did anybody listen to me? Nooooooooooo

Thanks wimpy, I am glad someone remembered me and my trials and tribulations. RF

Ragtime Cowgirl is awesome..and still reporting the military news daily.TexKat kept the Situation Room going a long time, great pictures.

The cartoons of Baghdad Bob's denials of our presence in Baghdad are the best!

I'll never forget sharing all this.

Through the bagcam,I learned how pathetic some TV reporters are and how great Bob Arnot is at giving a report. (He didn't need 6 "start overs)
