Do you mean Craig Rogers, who was the PR man for the group at the start? Rogers was a chaplain's assistant. I've never heard he was gay and he was in VN during the war, so maybe you mean someone else.

I should know better than to take VVAW's word for anything but they say (1) he was a founder of the org in 1967, and (2) he was discharged from the Navy (caught in the rope locker with the cabin boy? Or maybe he was the cabin boy?) in 1958. Sounds like a set of records to FOIA.
