They contract for a number of screens but not number of showings (at least in OH). That's how they can show a G rated movie in the afternoon then an R at night.
At least this is my understanding.

I've had this happen with Lord of the Rings, with Harry Potter, and with other 'block buster' type movies. Ask and pay for a ticket to the headline movie, get a ticket stub for another movie and the ticketer going 'oops.'

Last two times I didn't bother to make a fuss about it. I should have thought of contacting the press about it.

I think it is most likely laziness or a mistake rather than some sort of anti Mel conspiracy.

I agree. I've had this happen before when going to the movies.

Things like this happen at bookstores too. Many political books written by conservatives are hidden.

Last time I was in my nearby Barnes & Noble, I noticed some jerk had covered up all the books in the Judaica section.

It's annoying, and it happens all the time.

No matter how cynical you get about the left, you just can't keep up.

Dang! The libs are unbelievable. I will definitely check out tickets when we go next week.

I'm glad I read the comments on this thread because I was thinking about seeing Hidalgo, but now I won't.

That actually used to happen especially during the Clinton years. Copies of the American Spectator were deliberatley hidden behind other mags. I don't see it so much now. But then again there isn't much "conservative" in National Review, The Weekly Standard, or the Spectator anymore anyway so libs don't bother hiding them.

I am almost positive this was not intentional. This movie was more of a money maker than anyone thought.

As of tonite, it looks like Passion will become the highest grossing R-rated film of all time. As of Thursday night, it was within $5 1/2 million of passing Matrix - Revolutions for that status, so we should see that when tonites grosses get posted tomorrow

A bit hypocritical of me but now that the Rings saga is over I'll never watch a movie...unless it's a rings movie(I'm shameless).....with Viggo in it again.

and my stub was clearly marked "The Passion"

The skullduggery of shorting on ticket sales is a practice that plagued the industry back when Charlie Chaplin and Douglas Fairbanks were pups. It may be done for any number of reasons but it has one effect: the filmmakers get screwed. The only known prophylactic against such abuse is placing people in ticket booths to oversee sales, and that has been done. BTW, having distribution difficulty, The Passion of the Christ opened on at least a thousand fewer screens than less controversial major films.

Was at Barnes-Noble today. Maureen O'Hara's new autobiography not up front with new hardbacks nor in Autobiography section - it was almost to the back of the store in a rack with waste-of-paper books. Up front there were three books that are pro Sodomites. But then one young clerk had a pentagram tatooed on his arm.

Going to "Passion" again tomorrow and taking two friends. And we will be checking our tickets.

I'm struck by the notion that theater chains have been practising their own version of "casting lots for Christ's garments".

BTW, one girlfriend dumped him for his "lack of attention to personal hygiene!"

He probably felt right at home playing Aragorn.

Jackson: Viggo, we have to ask you to not wash your hair for a few months.

Viggo: No problem.

Mortenson has less personality than a roll of sod.

Mortenson will never eat lunch in this town.

At least not on my movie-ticket dollar!
Unless some weasels at the ticket office engage in CRIMINAL fraud.

Yet, when they fudge ticket sales in mass quantities like this, it's alright,
because "Gibson's made enough"???

If this happens to me, I'll just say "I guess I'll just have to call ICON Productions
and swear out an affidavit with the local law enforcements agencies...seeing how
ICON went after a couple of flunkies for swiping a few copies of The Passion (IIRC)."
