THE public health experts - and their amen corner in the media - owe Helen Gurley Brown an apology. The legendary Cosmopolitan editor was vilified in 1993 when she published a piece called "The Myth of Heterosexual AIDS." But she was right.

My very liberal SIL stated that the largest growing group of AIDS patients in the US is black women. Anybody have stats that I can slam her with???

That actually might be true, though the greatest numbers are amongs homosexuals. Transmission rates from men to women are much greater than the reverse, and there were stories a couple of month's ago about college age black men who have sex with other men, but still consider themselves straight.

This is beyond sad. The truth seems as if it is an oddity anymore.

It isn't the largest growing group, but it is the FASTEST growing group. Apparently significant numbers of black man are 'on the down low' and serving as an AIDS vector into the hetero black community.

It used to be that essentially no non-IV-drug using black women got AIDS. Now some are getting it from sexual contact. A moderate number of cases on a very small base = Fastest growth.

I read something, probably here, stating that many black men who are bisexual or homosexual, tend to hide their preferences from the rest of the community. In other words, they pretend to be straight. If they are HIV positive, they can certainly pass this on to an unsuspecting female partner. As far as black women being the largest growing number of AIDS patients, I haven't heard that statistic.

We all know that statistics can be manipulated ;-)

What's worse is that in trying to convince the rest of us we were in danger,the Homosexual lobby and their allies prevented scientists etc. from focusing their efforts on the Gays.

And they blame Ronald Reagan for it.

Have to consider the prevalence of sex for drugs trades. These women are likely NOT drug free but associate with the injecting class of drug users.

Bullsh!t.
Conservatives simply want it acknowledged that AIDS is a primarily a behavioral disease, due to deviant behavior, and the vast majority of those who have contracted it did so knowing the risks.

Of course, the sad stories you read about are of innocent children who've acquired it from their drug-addicted mothers or from contaminated blood from irresponsible (or worse: malicious!) blood donors.

The AIDS "activists" you hear from know d@mn well the funding for AIDS research would have dried up overnight if the majority of people in this country realized that most of those with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome had "acquired" it by putting their d!cks where they don't belong.

Michael Fumento, who wrote the original 1990 book titled "The Myth of Heterosexual AIDS," said, "I'm not waiting for an apology. It's not going to happen."

I read it back in 1990 and for the last 14 years have been recommending it to people who fell for the "everyone will get it" lie.
