[history]
March 18, 2004 -- Yesterday's murderous car bombing at the Mount Lebanon Hotel in Baghdad killed at least 29 people and wounded more than 40. But maximum bloodshed wasn't the terrorists' only goal: They've also grown clever at manipulating the press. Such attacks - and the miles-long video streams they generate - have the sinister effect of making Iraq look to the outside world far more dangerous and chaotic than it really is.

I heard some of the VP's speech today and it was awesome. I'm not sure it was delivered for public consumption. I think it was a primer for true believers on the right for what is going to come for Senator Kerry in the future. I recommend everyone listen to the seven minute drubbing that Senator Kerry took today from VP Cheney and I defy anyone to state that the administration isn't on their game here. They can turn the Cheney speech into 25 effective ads against Kerry. Hopefully, the tide in this election is about to turn.

Hopefully, the tide in this election is about to turn. The "tide" in this election won't be running until October.
That's SEVEN MONTHS FROM NOW.
Most voters are not on FR at 4AM. And how they vote in November will have ZERO to do with what politicians do or say now, but rather wih events that have not transpired yet.

Hey there. Look, like I stated in my post, Cheney's speech wasn't for public consumption. It was a primer for those people who do spend time on Free Republic at 4 AM. It was a shot across the bow of the Kerry campaign and a preview for the campaign that has already been started. I'm glad they've gotten going. That's all I was saying.

Agreed. Most of the political barbs flying now are for redmeat partisans. The real campaign begins in Sep-Oct and the election will likely turn on current events this fall.
That said, it's comforting to know that even at this early stage the Bush administration is sticking to the facts and using Kerry's own words and votes to fillet him.

You are wrong on one point. People ARE paying attention to the election NOW. I have seen several different polls that show that the electorate is paying very close attention to the candidates, issues, and daily events. How long the public can focus on this is another question.
One thing is for sure; this election cycle is different than anything that I have previously experienced. My first vote was for Nixon (PROUDLY)!
