Fifteen Year-Old Girl Dies After RU 486 Abortion in Detroit, Michigan

Detroit, MI (LifeNews.com) -- Fifteen year-old Tamia Russell of Detroit died as a result of a second-trimester abortion earlier this year. It is suspected that the abortion drug RU-486 caused the fatal infection that claimed her life.

Steven Brown of the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office told LifeNews.com that the cause of death for Russell was listed as, "Uterine infarction with sepsis, due to status post second trimester abortion."

Dr. Leigh Hlavaty, the medical examiner, listed the manner of death as "normal," as opposed to homicidal, suicidal, or accidental, due to the natural cause of death, the obstruction of her uterine blood vessels and the infection.

The uterine infection is identical to that which caused the death of Holly Patterson, a 19-year-old California teen who died after taking Mifepristone, also known as RU-486, she was given by Planned Parenthood in September.

According to WJBK Fox News in Detroit, Russell’s relatives say, on January 7, she confessed to being pregnant with her 24-year-old boyfriend's child, and that his sister had driven her to the WomanCare of Southfield facility to obtain an abortion.

At that time, she was already part-way though the procedure, which leads Katharine Lorenz of Right to Life of Michigan to believe it was a chemical, not a surgical, abortion....

What was a 15 year old doing having sex anyway. That's way too young. Maybe her age had something to do with her dying from the RU486.

Either way, I have heard that a lot of feminists don't like RU486. They only reluctantly supported it once it came out because they realized that it would be against the pro choice philosophy to oppose it.

I personally feel that it would be better if the pill replaced the doctor-performed abortion. I think a doctor is violating his oath by performing an abortion, and it would be better for the woman to just handle it herself, in her own home.

I forgot to add that I think the reason the feminists didn't want RU486 coming out is because it would mean that less people would have to go to the abortion clinics.

I think the term "post" in this instance refers to the period of time after the abortion.

The proponents of Roe vs. Wade claimed that thousands of women died each year from illegal abortions. Their argument for making abortion legal was that it would save lives. However, the year before Roe vs. Wade the Centers for Disease Control reported less than 40 deaths due to illegal abortions.

I am willing to bet that more women die each year from so called "safe" and "legal" abortions than died before abortion was legalized.

According to the National Right to Life Committee The effectiveness of the RU486, or mifepristone, method begins to decline after 49 days, or 7 weeks of pregnancy. [...] Before the end of the 9th week of pregnancy (7 weeks for the baby), the outer extreme of mifepristone's effectiveness [...] You're right, this girl was too far along to be getting a chemical abortion. Something doesn't make any sense here. Still, the emphasis should be on why a teenager was able to get an abortion without parental consent, and why wasn't the 24 year old boyfriend charged with statutory rape. Life Dynamics (www.lifedynamics.com) has been following Planned Parenthood's involvement in concealing rape for the sake of profits. If you care about pro-life issues, you need to go to their web site and read about it.
