If they go for the Vatican, well, if that doesn't rock the world and change things, nothing will. Even protestants would be revolted by that. I worry that is what they will do.

I hate to speculate on something like that. I don't know if they would be stupid enough to deliberately target the pope -- but they are definitely framing this war in religious terms. The pope, fortunately, has both Divine and earthly protection. However, the will of God is not ours to reason -- so prayers are necessary.
