Ah, yes, but is the respectable Doctor Yaaaargh a Spanish citizen or an European official ? Howlin' Howard is clearly trying to politically exploit 200 dead Spaniards to rack up a few measly points against the Republicans. The move is, well, despicable to say the least.

I don't remember if the French battalion in Afghanistan is airborne, too. We could have a splendid match there ! lol. Or we could be as wise as Salomon and split up the prize. Would lengthwise do ?

"Spaniards have linked Thursday's bombing to al-Qaeda, and see the attacks as a reprisal for Mr Aznar's strong support for the US during the Iraq war," said Lorenzo Berlando de Quiroz, an [Spanish] economist. [Financial Times, March 15 2004, p.1]

This is not an "it's all Aznar's & Bush's fault" slap-down statement from Spanish voters?

So I gather you find the prospect of a terrorist act enjoyable ?

No, I don't find any terrorist act funny OR "enjoyable"! I thought I was being funny but I guess not.

Maybe I'm splitting hairs there (in that case please accept my excuses), but I don't think so. This economist states that Spain was hit because the country contributed to Iraqi operations. And it was probably true. But he doesn't say - nor the Spaniards, as far as I know : hey, it wasn't us, it was the Americans that made us do it.

In their latest threats, the terrorists state they will bomb France because of the veil ban. Frankly, if (or, alas, when) the first bomb explode, will we blame it all on the veil ban ? I don't think so. Veil bans don't plant bombs on trains, terrorists do.

To get back to Spain, I think we should credit the Spaniards with much more sense. They have not been struck by bombs planted by President Bush or Prime Minister Aznar, and they know it.

I'm sure this technical issue could be easily settled ! lol Or we could ask if there is a talented butcher or barber in the Northern Alliance troops, one with fond memories of Commander Massoud. Frankly, we couldn't get more multinational than that !

You are on target about the great influence that the media has. In my limited experience with lurking on European message boards, I have found that Europeans almost unanimously think that Bush stole the election from Gore--I recongize that as their own media feeding them only one side of the story.

Here's another example of how the media likes to push our buttonsm here in the United States. I do not like John Ashcroft, he is too extreme for even me, but he's not as bigoted as the media protrays him. There is a running joke about how John Ashcroft covered up the breasts on a statue of a naked woman with a drape. However what is untold is that Ashcroft did this not because of modesty, but because at press conferences idiot reporters liked to take close-up pictures of his head next to the breasts. Anecdotes like this only build up a very one-sided image of Ashcroft. No doubt the media has also shaped European perception of America in their own image and vice-versa.

No matter my conception of Europe is right or wrong, I apologize and withdraw the statements that I made about France getting bombed. You have convinced me that the Europeans are not wholly to blame for believing Bush--they were led into it by their leaders, friends, and media. Here's hoping there will be more citizen-to-citizen dialogues to get rid of our own prejudices against the other side.

Ah, yes, I remember the Ashcroft/statue story. You're absolutely right, we weren't given THIS side of the story. Instead we had to picture a strange man who would order most museums to be XXX-rated. A good example indeed !

Well we have to get these little details worked out before he gets caught. If it goes to the UN Osama will die of old age waiting for the diplomats to work it out.

But the French are the ones preaching 'dialogue', 'multi-culturalism', understanding, and patience ...

IMHO ... hitting the French, given their stance thus far, will be a catalyst in the free world as it will prove that appeasement does not make you safe. I pray for the French and their safety, but an attack their will shift the tide, and the previously reticent will join the front lines of the war on terror.

What do those idiots on the Puppet show have to say? It used to really gall me to see them presenting us and the allies as murderering monsters.Of course, we have discussed before the extreme leftist slant in the French media;they make ours look almost.. well fair.. More in private message later.

"...in 10-15 years the Muslims in France will be demanding the removal of synagogues..."

The french had no problem with carrying out massive deportation of french Jews for the germanofascists. Why would they hesitate to accomodate the islamofascists?

Drancy detention camp, administered by the french. All sent by the french to their death in east Poland.

Velodrome D'Hiver sports arena. The french detained thousands of parisian Jews here, before deporting them to Drancy and then Auschwitz.

french Jewish children detained by the french prior to their deportation to nazi death camps.

An attack on France will not serve as a catalyst. The terrorists have already given the left a reason for the attacks they can jump on. It is the ban on head scarfs. The French will be painted as racists and bigots who brought it on themselves. The only thing that will serve as a catalyst is if the terrorists get stupid and blow up the New York Times. Then the media might at least start printing half the truth.

Well, this is political satire, like Britain's Spitting Image. They usually mock everybody, presenting the Left as hypocrites and dullards, the Right as incompetent buffoons and, of course, caricature every foreign leader. You should see what they make of Chirac !
