Howard Stern has worked for Republican candidates for a long time!
He is the reason that Pataki is governor of NY(not that Pataki is great or anything).
He helped Christie Todd Whitman out in NJ.
He helped Rick Lazio out in NY by having him appear on his show, and endorsing him(not that this helped).
Stern has been a Republican for years. He feels that this administration's FCC has gone nuts, and I largely agree with him.
How hard is it to turn off the radio, or change the station, if you don't want to listen to Stern? Not very hard.
People are getting worked up over nothing, and it was not smart for Bush to lose Howard as a friend. Howard has 8 million listeners, and most of them respect his opinion.

"He helped Christie Todd Whitman out in NJ."
And you're using this as a defense of Stern - to say that he's Republican? LOL.
Christie Whitman is utterly despicable. She's a RINO of the worst variety. I say this as a citizen of the State of New Jersey for almost 30 years. She was as bad as Florio and almost as bad as McGreevey. She did more damage to the Republican Party in NJ than any 10 Democrats combined ever could.
To call Christie Whitman a Republican is like calling Clinton our first black president. Just cause someone said they were doesn't make it true.
HiramAbiff:
The FCC has every right to shut down Stern for obscenity. It has no right to shut him down for his political opinions. Political and religious speech are what the 1st Amendment was meant to protect - NOT pornography.
My guess is that you would be happy if the government were to go out tomorrow and shut down Michael Moore, Al Franken, Janine Garofolo, etc. etc. No longer permit them to state their views publically. Do you -really- believe that that would further the conservative cause? You are awfully naive if so.
Yes, I know they're either brain-addled or communists. Yes, I know their intentions are purely anti-American. But they cannot be silenced for their political views, lest we become that which we despise.
Your problem is you don't trust limited representative government, which is what America stands for. If you did, you'd realize that they can get all the airplay in the world, but they'll never con enough people to bring us down - AS LONG AS BOTH SIDES HAVE THE RIGHT TO STATE THEIR CASE. Our side will win on an even playing field, because as you said, we are right, they are wrong, and Americans are smart enough to tell the difference if they are allowed to judge.
What we need to work at is to stop the Left from muzzling conservative political speech on campus, religious expression, etc. The worst way to accomplish that is to have people like you "on our side" saying it's okay to censor political speech.

I only recently tuned completely out of the Howard Stern Show due to his lack of sense when finally lashing out at George W. Bush. I allowed Stern to get away with Bush bashing in prior years only because it was never this relentless, and at times, he would even issue a correction to false claims. (For instance, he retracted statements he said in conjunction with an internet article concerning the IQs of Presidents. He admitted the article was a hoax.)
According to Stern, he is beholden to no political party, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was just to straddle the middle of the road so that he could appeal to a "larger" audience of perverts and miscreants.
Stern strongly supported Clinton in his two terms, and it still amazes me that he flatly rejected Bob Dole when it was in Bill Clinton's administration that Mel Karamazin was forced to pay off the FCC to expand Infinity. If Stern was really middle of the road, wouldn't have he "vowed" to rid Clinton of his 2nd term as President?
In any case, I no longer can put up with the hypocrisy that underlies the Stern show. By the way, do you know the political affiliations of the cast and crew?
From what I've heard over the years:
- Robin Quivers - Republican
- Howard Stern - Independent
- Fred "Eric" Norris - Democrat (calls voters for Bush "morons")
- Gary DellAbate - Democrat
- "Stuttering"John Melendez - Democrat (oh, he's now Jay's boy)
- Artie Lang - (don't know, but supported Bush's war on terror and McGreevey)
- Tom Chiasano - Republican
- Scott De Pace - Republican
- Jackie Martling - Democrat
- Crazy Cabbie - Republican
Boycott Stern and the George Soros radio network!
