Important Update!!!!
The Last 24 hours were intense. As the student movement reported, "What's going on this evening has never been seen and the night is just at its start and will be very long for the regime."
Although it is now midnight on the east coast of the US, it is now morning in Iran. I expect to post numerous reports on the celebrations/demonstrations later in the day and expecting more photos.
In the mean time I will continue to report the other major news on Iran.
I will try to keep you informed.

--------------------------------------------------
The US media almost entirely ignores news regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran. As Tony Snow of the Fox News Network has put it, this is probably the most under-reported news story of the year. But most Americans are unaware that the Islamic Republic of Iran is NOT supported by the masses of Iranians today. Modern Iranians are among the most pro-American in the Middle East.
There is a popular revolt against the Iranian regime brewing in Iran today. Starting June 10th of this year, Iranians have begun taking to the streets to express their desire for a regime change. Most want to replace the regime with a secular democracy. Many even want the US to over throw their government.
The regime is working hard to keep the news about the protest movement in Iran from being reported. Unfortunately, the regime has successfully prohibited western news reporters from covering the demonstrations. The voices of discontent within Iran are sometime murdered, more often imprisoned. Still the people continue to take to the streets to demonstrate against the regime.
In support of this revolt, Iranians in America have been broadcasting news stories by satellite into Iran. This 21st century news link has greatly encouraged these protests. The regime has been attempting to jam the signals, and locate the satellite dishes. Still the people violate the law and listen to these broadcasts. Iranians also use the Internet and the regime attempts to block their access to news against the regime. In spite of this, many Iranians inside of Iran read these posts daily to keep informed of the events in their own country.
This daily thread contains nearly all of the English news reports on Iran. It is thorough. If you follow this thread you will witness, I believe, the transformation of a nation. This daily thread provides a central place where those interested in the events in Iran can find the best news and commentary. The news stories and commentary will from time to time include material from the regime itself. But if you read the post you will discover for yourself, the real story of what is occurring in Iran and its effects on the war on terror.
I am not of Iranian heritage. I am an American committed to supporting the efforts of those in Iran seeking to replace their government with a secular democracy. I am in contact with leaders of the Iranian community here in the United States and in Iran itself.
If you read the daily posts you will gain a better understanding of the US war on terrorism, the Middle East and why we need to support a change of regime in Iran. Feel free to ask your questions and post news stories you discover in the weeks to come.
If all goes well Iran will be free soon and I am convinced become a major ally in the war on terrorism. The regime will fall. Iran will be free. It is just a matter of time.

Dr. Z,
I have been following your dedication to the Iranian cause here on FR over the months now. Thanks for all you are doing. With out you this would have passed me by I am sure.
Time will tell if tonight we are on the cusp of history. I hope we are. Even if this is one of many battles before the overthrow of the Mullahs it is at the very least a quantum shift in the revolution. From the reports that I have seen tonight, defiance is open and the lines are much more clearly drawn.
I pray for success for those who fight for freedom in Iran. When they fight for freedom so intensely they are our brothers indeed.
Thanks again and keep up the good work.

Thank you, but you are the smart one - chatting on line in a foreign language with us. My husband and I and our four kids went to Iran in 2002 and it was an awesome experience. I love the Persian people and I pray for your safety and success in your aspiration for freedom. If the mullahs fall, Iran will be an awesome ally for the Americans. What do you think? Could this be it? Are we going to see regime change in Iran soon? I sure hope and pray so. What do the Iranian people need from the U.S. to accomplish this goal? Thanks for your comments. Iran will soon be a real US ally in the world once again and Mullahs will soon fall, I am sure of it. We need the USA to support us mentally and press on the Mullahs to free Iran.

May freedom be won in Iran.

Hi, What do you think of Iran's Nuke plans?
To: F14 Pilot
Hi back at you. Well, I think IT IS DANGEROUS and MUST BE STOPPED.
To: Khashayar
If the US were to push for UN sanctions on the basis of Nuke violations, would this hasten the downfall of the current regime?
Or just end up hurting the Iranian people?

Bush meeting with U-N nuclear chief amid new standoff with Iran
March 16, 2004
KFOR News
White House-AP -- President Bush meets with the U-N's nuclear chief today amid new worries over Iran's nuclear program.
After a critical report from the U-N agency, Tehran suspended inspections of its facilities. That move has been denounced by the Bush administration, which thinks the Iranians are trying to build a bomb. A State Department spokesman says Tehran continues "a pattern of delay and deception and denial."
However, Mohamed ElBaradei (ehl-BEHR'-uh-day) -- head of the International Atomic Energy Agency -- says he thinks the Iranians know they have to come clean.
Also today, Bush is meeting with Ireland's prime minister, Bertie Ahern, to mark St. Patrick's Day. The two are expected to discuss an upcoming June summit in Ireland -- which anti-Iraq War protesters have vowed to target.

Iran's president says his key reforms plans defeated
March 17, 2004
SFGate.com
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- President Mohammad Khatami conceded defeat Wednesday on two bills meant to check the power of Iran's hard-liners, essentially acknowledging the failure of key pillars of his reformist presidential agenda.
One of the bills aimed to increase presidential powers in order to stop constitutional violations. The other sought to bar the Guardian Council -- a conservative oversight body -- from disqualifying parliamentary and presidential candidates.
"I withdraw the bills and declare that I have met with defeat," Khatami told reporters.

Major Breaking News from inside of Iran...
Watchers of Iran have long waited for the Oil Sector Workers to go on strike. It could quickly cripple the regime.
It is being reported by the ILNA (Iranian Labor News Agency)that approximately 500 oil sector workers have blocked the road between Khoramshahr to Ahvaz. They are reportedly in the second day of their strike.
This stretch of road is reportedly a critical because it most oil products must pass through this area in order to reach other areas of Iran (it is near their oil complex). They are calling on local people to join them in their strike.
Here is the report in Persian (I am told)

They are calling on local people to join them in their strike. This is good, like last summer, right? The students protested and then other groups joined.

Once Iran's largest port, Khorramshahr was almost destroyed during the Iran-Iraq War.
Ahvaz is about 100km north of Khorramshahr.
