Knowing nothing more than what is posted my initial reaction is that that is a hoax.

"If that's not giving aid and comfort to an enemy, it's certainly meddling with U.S. diplomacy in a time of war."
This has to be illegal, and at the very least anti- American. Kerry has no business meddling with our diplomacy!!!!

It's not just WT, it's all of pundit-ville - if the Senate is now going to investigate Hanoi John's interventionist activities with the world's terror leaders they, like the WT, should recall this letter & it's not a hoax and there's no spinning what Hanoi John meant to do by promising the world's terrorists that he will reassume to the Clintonista approach to terrorism and they should support him so they'll have good times ahead.

Kerry is a very dangerous man !!!!
To: Puppage
It can't be illegal because Hanoi John is a liberal demoncRAT and his wife Theresa was offended that Iran's mullahs were included in Bush's Axis of Evil.

Now I know what true outrage feels like. If Kerry has any
USA balls, he will fire the staff that sent that e-mail.
If he can't be Senatorial in the time of war, he should resign and rename his effort as being a revolting revolutionist.

Old news and an old controversy. IIRC, it turned out that the 'message' was just so much campaign boilerplate.

( Kerry has imaginary friends. Carter was attacked by a killer rabbit. Dems can be fun to watch.)
To: Steven W.
It's very hard to draw the line as to what is legal. Senators have often done some very strange things in the foreign policy line, and for the most part only political consequences, not legal sanctions, have ensued. At most, they have been removed from committees, as was the case with Leaky Leahy. But no one is going to remove Kerry from any committees as long as he has some chance of being the next president.
I agree that this sort of thing is despicable. But the most that can be done is to publicize it and attack it as harmful to our country and our friends abroad.

I'm going to echo the comments of several other Freepers in recent days and say that I find Kerry far more despicable than Clinton. In fact, I didn't really begin to dislike Clinton personally until the Lewinsky thing began to play out. His behavior then might be excused as the behavior of a caged animal, but Kerry is truly Carteresque in his willingness to undermine the policy of a sitting president during a time of war.

From the Tehran Times web site (archives 2.8.04)
WASHINGTON (Mehr News Agency) -- The office of Senator John kerry, the frontrunner in the Democratic presidential primary in the U.S., sent the Mehr News Agency an e-email saying that kerry will try to repair the damage done by the incumbent president if he wins the election. The text of the e-mail follows.
As Americans who have lived and worked extensively overseas, we have personally witnessed the high regard with which people around the world have historically viewed the United States. Sadly, we are also painfully aware of how the actions and the attitudes demonstrated by the U.S. government over the past three years have threatened the goodwill earned by presidents of both parties over many decades and put many of our international relationships at risk.
It is in the urgent interests of the people of the United States to restore our country's credibility in the eyes of the world. America needs the kind of leadership that will repair alliances with countries on every continent that have been so damaged in the past few years, as well as build new friendships and overcome tensions with others.

Not sure how much credibility to place in this. It's somewhat hazy even from the editorial how specific this actually was and what context the email is quoted from. Also who actually sent the email and to whom.

I really think Kerry is our biggest danger right now. He is drunk with power, and is married to an almost billionaire socialist.

"... Kerry is truly Carteresque in his willingness to undermine the policy of a sitting president during a time of war."
Kerry is attempting to establish a Shadow State Department. Kerry's Shadow Government is being established before the election.

It almost seems as if he's angling for a Clinton-China-style campaign relationship with these people. What is the purpose of writing an email? Did Dukakis or Mondale initiate similar communications with hostile foreign powers?
This man must be stopped.
