Hungary Minister of Defense criticizes Spain withdrawal
Magyarhirlap (Hungarian newspaper) ^ | 3/16/04 | Istvan Perger

Posted on 03/16/2004 6:46:31 AM PST by geros

"It sends a very negative message when a country withdraws its troups on account of terror. This sends a message that we are weak, and that terrorism is viable. It is precisely by our presence [in Iraq] that we can put the squeeze on terror, that is how we localize and restrain terror attacks..."

They well understand encroaching evil, and why you can't appease it.

The Eastern European nations, all of whom suffered under Soviet oppression and previously German occupation, understand the dangers of appeasement.

In a way, the change of governments in Spain has actually backfired in a sense on the terrorists. They were hoping that other nations would follow suit behind Spain's lead in leaving Iraq and withdrawing to some degree from the War on Terror (aka World War III). In the past 24 hours, just the opposite as occurred thanks to our Polish, Romanian, Ukranian and Hungarian allies.

Kudos to our friends in the New Europe (and Britian)!

The Hungarian Minister of Defense is my new hero! Here's hoping his viewpoint becomes conventional wisdom throughout the EU over the next few weeks and months : If it does, perhaps Step One in the terrorist's master plan (mass bombings to force EU states to concede self-rule for muslem immigrant communities throughout the EU) will be aborted. I do believe that is what they intend to try next.

Hungary gets it. Judging from a London Times op-ed, the Brits get it. Spain has done civilization a great disservice in bowing to terror.

Spain has done civilization a great disservice in bowing to terror.

Of course but Zapatero has done Juan Kerry a greater disservice by endorsing him. Kerry has now found his foreign leader and is hopelessly entwined with a Socialist Appeaser.

And it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

It's interesting that the nations most recently released from the bonds of oppression are most willing to fight for the freedom of others.

Rumsfeld said it so well when he referred to 'old europe' versus 'new europe'.

But, don't worry! These Socialist Appeasers have the answer. The root cause of terrorism is that the US is evil. If we elect people like Lurch and Zappy, we won't be quite so evil and then maybe the terrorists will like us. And anyway the terror threat is exaggerated. Paz!

the sober voices in both France and Germany, of all places, are saying it is craven appeasement.

Perhaps they feel the cold wind of terrorism blowing down their own necks?

I didn't know that chorus could still be heard.

(Another Freeper posted this yesterday, but it still applies to this article)

Dane-geld

IT IS always a temptation to an armed and agile nation,
To call upon a neighbor and to say:-
"We invaded you last night-we are quite prepared to fight,
Unless you pay us cash to go away."

And that is called asking for Dane-geld,
And the people who ask it explain
That you've only to pay 'em the Dane-geld
And then you'll get rid of the Dane!

It is always a temptation to a rich and lazy nation,
To puff and look important and to say:-
"Though we know we should defeat you, we have not the time to meet you.
We will therefore pay you cash to go away."

And that is called paying the Dane-geld;
But we've proved it again and again,
That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld
You never get rid of the Dane.

It is wrong to put temptation in the path of any nation,
For fear they should succumb and go astray,
So when you are requested to pay up or be molested,
You will find it better policy to says:-

"We never pay any one Dane-geld,
No matter how trifling the cost,
For the end of that game is oppression and shame,
And the nation that plays it is lost!"

Like the Poles and other Eastern Europeans, the Hungarians KNOW what its like to be ruled by a brutal oppressor.

Also, the Hungarians were the ONLY people in Europe to give the Mongols a hard time and almost beat them. They also helped stopped the Islamic menace once before.

Just a wish, but I wish Hungary or Poland would step up and say we will double the manpower Spain withdraws. If they take out 1300, we will contribute 2600 more. They won't get any respect from the EU anyway, so why not do it. Somebody needs to rub Spain's nose in it. Maybe when they sober up in about a week they will regret their vote. Send an airbase or two from Germany to Hungary and Poland.

Remember It's all symbolism anyway.
