I voted for Nixon BUT now I am convinced his going after the commies early in his career was just a means of obtaining publicity and getting elected in a GOP area and not motivated by any strong dislike of the commies that motivated Reagan

His and Kissinger's DETENTE was a disaster and his bringing Red China into the 20th century may still buites us severely in the future

In addition Nixon geared his 72 campaign entirely on his getting re-elected and copmpletely abandonned other GOP types up for re-election

If the democrats hadn't run McGovern a hell of a lot of conservatives would have stayed home
