This report doesn't explain the context of the Georgetown reference. When the rest of the protestors were sleeping on the White House Mall, Kerry was staying at the posh home of a Georgetown socialite. He was a phony then, and a phony now.

Running the Nixon angle again effectively allows to press to paint anyone who criticizes Kerry's VVAW actions in an unflattering light.

Sure Nixon kept an eye on the nut. And as we're learning more about the activities of Kerry's group, VVAW, with very good reason indeed.

I agree with you. Tom Brokaw led his nightly news this evening with that tease on the Nixon/Kerry senario. When the piece aired in the last segment, it was a delight to me , to see Nixon calling him a phony.
I wonder if there is more tape of Kerry that has not been brought to light yet, that would be more damaging to him.
Strange feelings , indeed.

I am no Pat Buchanan fan, but Chris Matthews played this William's piece on Hardball and then had Pat on as he had personal knowledge of that era in that WH.
I must say, Pat B. did a very good job of putting the era in perspective and he lambasted Kerry for going around these days calling Vietnam "Nixon's War" when it was "Johnson's War" and started as "Kennedy's War" and Nixon started withdrawing troops right off the bat.

Well Nixon sure got that right! Not only a phoney, but a traitor. Kerry was working with Jane Fonda and a bunch of phoney would be domestic terrorists who plotted to target US legislators for assassination! And now the head of those plots is working on the Kerry election team.

I think the only reason for this footage (and I think there will be more) is that Ketchup Boy was not quite as silly looking then as he is now. Brokaw only airs this junk to make the bozo look better.
Remember, Nixon is remembered as a crook by a lot of people. Now Kerry is painted as another well-intentioned victim of the Watergate Gang.

He was a phony then, and a phony now.It did on the tv taped report. It had footage of Kerry addressing the assembled protesters, then segued to the taped Nixon/Colson revelation that Kerry stayed several nights at the socialites, and went out to fancy restaurants.
Williams also included that MTP footage where Kerry appeared with discredited activist Hubbard, and Kerry "confessed" to war crimes. I would have liked Brian Williams to point out the guy sitting next to Kerry was revealed days later as having lied about his rank and war experience, but on balance I thought it was a pretty good report and gave viewers a context for any, uh, revelations that might be coming down the pike.

Oh Goodie, We get to kick Nixon in the B@ll$ again !No doubt that's what NBC is thinking. Myself? I was thrilled to hear Nixon's voice nailing Kerry for being a phony--33 years ago and counting.
