Prodi says Madrid attacks show failure of Iraq war

The Madrid attacks demonstrated that the US-led war in Iraq had failed in its objectives because the terrorism it was meant to eradicate had become even more powerful, European Commission President Romano Prodi said in an interview published here Monday.
"Whether in Iraq or outside Iraq -- in Istanbul, Moscow, Madrid -- the terrorism that should have been stemmed by this war is infinitely more powerful today than it was a year ago," Prodi told the Turin daily La Stampa in a scathing assessment of US President George W. Bush's war on terrorism.
"It is clear that the war on terrorism has not been resolved by force. Remember that we are one full year from the beginning of the war in Iraq," said Prodi.
Prodi said "all of Europe" felt under attack from terrorism, and said European leaders were already discussing the possibility of creating a special anti-terrorism commissioner.
"We are already discussing the need for a European commissioner for terrorism," he said.
Prodi is seen as a likely leader of Italy's left in opposition to Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi -- a key Bush ally in Europe -- in general elections scheduled for 2006.

This guy makes sense.
What I would try to do is give in to as many of the terrorists' demands as you can...that way, you'll be sure they won't hurt you anymore.
It's all completely logical!

"We are already discussing the need for a European commissioner for terrorism." A European commission! Now that must have Osama quacking in his boots. Bet he soiled his burqa when he heard that one.

By definition, the WoT will not be over until there are no more attacks like this.
That attacks like this will continue to occur till all those who commit them are dead should be obvious.
That many more of them are dead than were dead a year ago is not a sign of failure.

"It is clear that the war on terrorism has not been resolved by force."
When did Bush say that the war in terrorism would be over in one year, or that Iraq was the only front in the war on terrorism? And if the Europeans do not attempt to use "force" to deal with terrorism, they must therefore presumably disband any anti-terrorism operations conducted by their various police agencies.

My God, Prodi actually threatened Al Qaeda with appointing another EU bureaucrat. Who would have thought the euros would dare go so far? Al Qaeda are quaking in their boots, now, all right.

Could be worse....he could have called for a U.N. resolution.

What we really need to do is to get a transcript of Bin Laden's 1998 Fatwa. Highlight all the phrases that state clearly the goals of Al-Qaeda (kill all the infidels, worldwide Islamic subjuation) and flood this to all media sources. The world needs to know that you can't reason with people who are out to kill you.

Widespread piracy on the high seas was eradicated by our taking a strong role against it. Guess what? Piracy still occurs... it's just not widespread. In the same way, the WOT will eliminate some current threats but it can't wipe it from the face of earth. Like piracy a century ago, our intent is to take the profit from the enterprise.
At its height, piracy flourished by state sponsorship. We made the cost not worth the reward. It will work with this too... provided the cheese-eating-surrender monkeys and their like-minded ilk don't coddle our enemies to victory.

If these clowns were around in WWII they'd be screaming Pearl Harbor was proof America have should appeased Japan and that the French model of surrendering as soon as possible was the only way to stop NAZIism from becoming "infinitely more powerful".

There was a USA Today article published about December 1, 2003, indicating the al-Qaeda was planning something big. See excerpt:
"The United States and its allies have captured or killed hundreds of al-Qaeda operatives overseas since 9/11, including many in the terror network's highest ranks.
Much of the talk among U.S. analysts regarding al-Qaeda's capabilities has focused on the potential for terrorists to attack targets abroad."

But whoever said the leftists are logical? These are the same people who think that taxing businesses and letting people leech off indefinitely (welfare is unlimited in most of western Europe) from the government is a good way to prevent unemployment.
To: Pokey78
Wait a minute! Now the Euroweenies say THERE IS A CONNECTION between Iraq and terrorists?
