I'll see if I can find some polls from the Spanish press (prior to Thursday, of course).
I saw some poles before Thursday and they were showing PP at about 47% then the cover up rumors started up and it all went downhill from there. The Aznar government didn't exactly do too much about the rumors. I think Aznar tried to play the ETA card and it back fired on them badly.
From what I read the bomb which the Police de-fused had a cell phone which was traced and the perps were most likely known to the Police before Thursday. Aznar knew if it was AQ that it would mean the end of his governement and he was right. The spanish people didn't have the stomach for this fight. Aznar tried to influence the situation but it got out of his control.
