DRUDGE REPORT this morning lists the occupying force numbers for the individual countries in Iraq. Although Drudge, being a yellow journalist, uses the term "sizable hole" for what the Spaniards will leave when they depart, they are at 1300 soldiers presently less than one percent of the force. placing them at number six on the list between the Ukraine at 1600 and the Netherlands at 1100. Their departure will be largely symbolic.
Of course the level of that symbolism is the important question. And what transpires from here on out is wildly unpredictable. Although Francis Fukuyama and others told us history was at its end, clearly they were dreaming (Who can blame them?-ed.). Despite a temporary victory in the Spanish election, this action may prove to have been the Islamofascists biggest mistake. They may have checkmated themselves. What do they do next? One more similar act in Europe or the USA may turn the majority of the Western world Jacksonian. We shall see, I'm afraid.
UPDATE: Meanwhile (hat tips: Mike and Rick Ballard), Poland is standing firm: "Revising our positions on Iraq after terrorists attacks would be to admit that terrorists are stronger and that they are right (to pursue attacks)," Prime Minister Leszek Miller told a news conference in the Polish town of Tarnow. Spain called this their 9/11, if they weren't the weak-kneed, capitulating cowards that everyone is labeling them, then they too would have woke up from their slumber of treating terrorism as a police action, as your beloved Clinton and all before him did, and into a War.
What the Spanish are doing is using this threat to advance their own narrow political purposes-socialism, just as you are obviously using this issue to advance your immature 3rd party agenda.
Of course I don't trust you, you failed to back up your baseless assertion that NY City council said that cigarettes were a greater threat than terrorism.
That's why so many of these victims' families have given up their careers and become professional malcontents and semi-professional talking heads instead.
Out of the 2,800 victims families that you mock, about 13 are members of the political group that has become talking heads. September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrow. That same group opposed the Afgan war, and has links to far left SOCIALIST groups, sound familiar? How else could they have been ready signs and all? This entire event was staged by socialist/fascists arrayed against the USA.
In fact it would not surprise me that socialists worldwide are now contacting al queaida cell operatives (remember that mole we had here working with them from McKinney's office, the spy?) and asking them to coordinate these highly effective bombing campaigns to solidify their base, and overthrow conservatives and moderates worldwide, in favor of them and their communist/religious fascists (islamists) worldwide.
this is but the extension of warfare, by the communistic and fascistic socialist branch of the human race. It did NOT end with the cold war. This is STILL the cold war. and the new assasins of choice are al queada. It would not surprise me if the "foreign leaders" that Kerry claims have endorsed his candidacy are working with the terrorists to bring about enough turmoil in their own nations (britain for example) to cause MOST of Bush's foreign allies in the WOT to lose office...
Neither would it surprise me that the party that supports ELF burning down businesses and killing loggers in the Northwest, ALSO is going to find ways to help the terrorists commit mass murder atrocities here in the USA in order to get back into power.
I think they are all murderors... and the guy in Spain... he probably paid islamists to pull of this atrocity JUST to get in power. socialists are good at staging reichstag events to achieve political goals.
