A particular human voice is the most singularly affecting sensory experience next to the human face. It comes from our infant perceptions. The face does not graduate so easily from mother and father through media the way the voice does. Pavarotti owns many arias for the present generation. Especially E lucevan le stelle. Perhaps he has not truly sung well for many years, but to hear THAT voice is like hearing your mothers voice. The familiarity trancends all else. Only Caruso dominated his contemporary's ear the way Pavorotti did. I understand and envy those who thrilled to hear him one last time

I saw the Three Tenors at Giant Stadium, What a fabulous performance.

Pavorotti's voice has been going for the past several years. I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did. He'll be missed.
