Various Democrats took to the internet on Sunday cheering the defeat of the party of Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar in the general elections. Several congratulated the Spanish people for what they saw as a justified rejection of the war on terror.
Exit polls from the election showed vast numbers of the electorate blaming the terrorist attack in Madrid on Spain's support of President Bush's position on Iraq.
Prime Minister Aznar is one of Bush's strongest allies, and Spain is one of the few countries that contributed significantly to the military effort in Iraq.
One Democrat writing in an online forum hoped this would be the beginning of a worldwide leftleaning landslide, which would sweep pacifist parties, including the Democratic party in the US, to power.
Another one expressed elation and thanked the Spanish people for "putting an end" to that country's war on terror, which he called a "charade".

Some of the early reports said the Socialists were ahead, and some said the opposite. I'm still not sure how this will work out, although I'm sorry the Spanish people didn't repond with more spine, as I expected.

I think that the Spanish people have played right into the hands of the terrorists. Of course, the terrorists want no resistance.

How do you say "yellow stripe" in Spanish ?
To: nwrep
The people of Spain have been run into the sea like lemmings, or buffalo over a cliff by Indians, only this time Muslim terrorists were the instigators in their demise. The terrorists by killing 200 Spaniards and wounding perhaps 1200 more have won a victory. This will only embolden these murderous pieces of Muslim excrement to kill more innocent victims in Europe. Will England, or perhaps Italy, be next? The terrorists have won a victory in Spain.

You know, maybe europe has just been around way too long to even matter anymore. It seems that 1000's of years of history just confuses them, they have no frigging clue just WHAT lessons to draw on. Figure they failed every test of the 20th century when it came to recognising serious threats when it mattered Too many people on both sides of the Atlantic simply don't want to be inconvenienced by this War on Terror. You are witnessing the biggest collective state of denial in world history.
Even scarier are those people who believe that we need to destroy this country in order to remake it into something better - in other words, they think the US needs to go through a rebirthing process - and terrorist attacks would help them achieve the destruction part.
This view is gaining currency and I'm afraid to think how many influential Dems buy into this idea. (Especially Dems whose formative years were the 60's)

Islamic Law for non-muslims
by Perfanalyst
04/14/02
The are four primary schools of Islamic Law (Shari'a) and these have significant differences in their rulings from each other. However, they all include a variety of rules for Non-Muslims (also referred to as non-believers, infidels, kafirs, dhimmi, or zimmi) some of which may be found in:
- Section O.11 of The Reliance of the Traveller - By Ahmad Ibn Naqib Al-Misri. This is one of the best known references on Shari. This is available online at:
http://www.muhaddith.org/cgi-bin/e_Optns.exe? A few additional conditions may be found in:
http://www.hindutva.org/KoranKafir/chapter17.html http://answering-islam.org/BehindVeil/btv4.html For example, Non-Muslim subjects of Muslim states are:
- To show respect to every Muslim and allow them to participate in their private meetings. To keep to the side of the street and wear a distinctive dress which separates them from Muslims.
- Not to propagate their customs and usages among the Muslims. They are forbidden to openly display wine or pork, (A: to ring church bells or display crosses,) recite the Torah or Evangel aloud, or make public display of their funerals and feastdays. Not to build any new places of worship or repair any old places of worship which have been destroyed by the Muslims. May not build higher than or as high as the Muslims' buildings.
- To allow Muslim travelers to stay in their places of worship and must entertain for three days any Muslim who wants to stay in their homes, and for a longer period if the Muslim falls ill.
- Treated differently in matters of testimony in law-courts, taxation, appointment to public offices, and charity. For example non-Muslims are not be allowed to testify or hold office (since they may not have "authority" over a Muslim), they must pay an additional tax, and they may not receive zakat (an obligatory form of Muslim charity).
Acts which are punishable by death include anyone who:
- Mentions something impermissible about Allah, its prophet, or Islam.
- Tries to revert to their ancestral faith after having once embraced Islam.
- Marries Muslim women without first getting converted into Islam.
When a subject's agreement with the state has been violated, the caliph chooses between the four alternatives for prisoners of war:
- death,
- slavery,
- release without paying anything,
- or ransoming himself in exchange for money or for a Muslim captive held by the enemy.
If the prisoner becomes a Muslim (before the caliph chooses any of the four alternatives) then he may not be killed, and one of the other three alternatives is chosen.

interesting.
wouldn't it be strange if the "socialists" worked even closer with us on the terrorist problem than the "conservatives?"
that IS a telling comment. Thanks for posting a sunny thought on a gray day...

No US tourists will be safe in Spain when it's known that the left will not stand up against terror. If you have Spain on your travel agenda, better cancel. I certainly hope my mutual fund is not heavily into Spanish stocks because they will crater tomorrow.
