During the SF protects the SFPD were equipped with a non-lethal "super-sock" bean bag, the gun holds 10 shots. It was not used for crowd control but for officer protection only. At SF, the protectors did also use sling-shots and anything else they could throw. I remember the oakland protests and the "cry-babies" that were screaming police brutality, I'm not sure if the bean bags were used their are not but if they were it would definitely leave its mark on ya :)
