I think it's still too early to tell. I'd like to see what happens after Nelson Mandela dies.

But maybe there's some chance things will hold together.

When apartheid fell in 1994, there was a widespread expectation that the ANC would turn the country upside down--punish the whites, take their wealth, and redistribute it to the oppressed masses.

It didn't happen right away in Rhodesia either.

I read on another board (http://www.skyscrapercity.com ), that, while ther is some activity in Cape Town that is improving the city, since the ANC took over, the mayor has been saying F-you to these developers and has diverted a lot of money to the townships (where all the poor illeterate black people live). This person is basically saying, if the ANC wins Cape Town again, it will be all downhill, and he would be leaving. And this guy has been posting articles that paint South Africa in a positive light.

South Africa's future looks bleak if the ANC continues to win.

I have heard that South africa has one of the worlds highest murder rates and also one of the highest rates of h.i.v.
Sll in sll this seems like a poor start.
Also let's not ignore the child sex trade there.

That is pretty much my impression, too, having just spent a week in South Africa, along with some other American policy wonks, as a guest of its government.

What's the phrase? Potemkin village?

This guy spends ONE WEEK in SA and knows what is going on. LOL!

The government is having trouble providing enough jobs

There's your trouble right there. Folks sitting around drinking beer waiting for government to provide a job will have a long, long wait.
