Not too late.

Too late for all the free publicity they would have garnered for releasing it on the same date as Gibson's film. Probably too late for the spectacle of seeing two lines at the multiplex, one of fans for "Passion", the other for "Life of Brian" glaring, and tossing insults and popcorn, at each other.
