But, computers and image processors are now thoroughly integrated in medical imaging.

As I am wont to say when feeling goofy, I am a Maytag repairman who dabbles from millivolts to kilovolts.

The consumer confidence numbers are also quite high, which is kind of hard to reconcile with a "jobless recovery." Also, I urge all of you to go to the website of the Bureau of Labor Statistics and compare total nonfarm jobs in January of 2001 (when Bush took office) to the most recent numbers. There has been a net gain even in this survey, which ain't bad when you consider we had 5 or 6 quarters of recession during this period and were deflating the internet bubble of 1997 through March of 2000.

Mort had a blistering rebuttal of his own for Juan.

To his credit, I find it impossible at times to discern whether Mort is left or right of center. I find him to be very fair. Not always right, but at least fair.

Fred then cut him off and went onto forcefully explain the difference between the "payroll survey" which polls employers as to their employment info and the "household survey" which polls, well, households as to THEIR employment.

Hey Fred! I'm cooking myself a burger for dinner this evening...
under the household survey, does that mean I have a manufacturing job?

Kerry does not want to be the president. He, at the direction of his party and at great expense to the public, only wants to have the democrats make a respectable showing and keep the venom flowing. A Florida disaster is also a bonus as you may see a few other legal fiascos in close states just to again make Bush a leader of questionable mandate by the people.

The fall election in a presidential year like this one would put the house and senate over a republican 2/3 majority if the democrats had no serious candidate to whip up the ticket for party unity.

Kerry's task, for which he will be paid handsomely, is to only minimize house, senate, and governor losses for the democrats.

In the meantime, Juan, Mort, Britt, and thousands of others in the talking box industry need a paycheck. In order to earn it they need to make it entertaining.

1. Fred didn't mention "manufacturing jobs". Just jobs. (Technically speaking, there are other kinds of jobs besides "manufacturing" jobs, you know.)

2. Is someone paying you to flip that burger, and on an ongoing basis? If so, then I'd say yes, you have a job. Let me know....

During the 30's, I understand that 75% of the workforce didn't lose their jobs...I assume they thought things were just fine and the economy was booming...

A fella I know who grew up on a farm back then didn't even know a depression was going on, except for what little they heard on the radio...

The household survey takes into account things like people who leave their jobs to become consultants, independent contractors, or to run home based businesses.

Consultant translated means unemployed.

Now about those home based businesses - the ones where you can stuff envelopes and make $1,000 per week in your spare time - oh, come now.

Mr. Green, I suggest you add a slice of cheese to your burger.

Woo hoo! Now I'm a consultant to a manufacturing company!

We don't need to do anything. If what you say is true, there will be plenty of people making money at their jobs and this won't be a factor in the booth.

To his credit, I find it impossible at times to discern whether Mort is left or right of center. I find him to be very fair. Not always right, but at least fair.

Mort is generally "balanced", however, when he talks about money, i.e. deficits, debt, and especially funding for medical research, he goes way off of the charts. Mort just can't get it through his head that sometimes medical research solves a problem and it is not necessary to fund that portion anymore. He thinks that you have to increase it every year, regardless.

It's somewhat understandable, since his wife has, I believe, Parkinson's Disease, and he rightfully is hoping for a cure.

I have been particularly impressed that he has seen through the Kerry vs. Bush attack ads.

My neighbor, a mechanical engineer in the paper industry, quit his job and went into the mill support business as a solo act. He felt that the corporations who owned the mills and the large firms who provide service/support were below par and not likely to change their psychology.

He now gross's more than a million a year and his wife is quitting her $125,000 job to stay at home as a mom, and selling her services as a patent attorney to firms needing contractual assistance.

He went from cold start to over a million in two years. During the first six months he had run up several tens of thousands on his credit cards just on air travel and hotel stays. He had to take out a huge insurance policy for liability to cover his exposure, tinkering with several hundred million dollar paper machines.

His wife figures she can double her earnings by staying at home with babies.

I just hope he avoids a tax problem.
