In all seriousness, I would expect CA to have a high abortion rate just based on population alone.

In all seriousness, I would expect people to know how a rate is determined, and why absolute population count isn't relevant in comparing rates. :)

Here is an interesting quote I found that fits SO well: "The leaders in the German sterilization movement state repeatedly that their legislation was formulated after careful study of the California experiment as reported by Mr. Gosney and Dr. [Paul] Popenoe. Texas has a large population... so does Russia, if you have a big enough piece of land you're bound to have more people. Seriously though, I wouldn't expect anything less from Texas. You guys get a lot of things right (Death Penalty etc...)

I live in CA, grade A. My university education was obtained in Nebraska, grade F. On the site, facts about Nebraska: "97 percent of Nebraska counties have no abortion provider" and "Did you know Nebraska’s abortion rate has dropped four years in a row?"

Since when is it a BAD thing that abortions go down over a four year period? Isn't this a group that should be supportive of responsible sex? It's a good thing that abortion goes down - condom use is on the rise!

Unfortunately for Russia, with a Russian Devushka (girl) likely to have 7 abortions in her lifetime, they are aborting themselves right out of existance. Their population is not going to be large enough to support their infrastructure, and there are already real problems. In Buchanan's "The Death of the West", he cites studies that, given the current pop. growth rate, show the population shrinking to less than 80 million in the next 50 years.
