Gee - It appears that the Governator HAS had people looking into the waste and bloat in the State Government after all...

Wonder why McClintok was not the one to find and blow this whistle after years of looking at finances ?

Who says he hasn't done so already. ;-)

A lot of the stuff that will end up being enacted eventually will have been proposed and pushed for by folks like TOm.

That rubs some folks the wrong way .. still.

lol

You sure didn't hear it from Arnold during the campaign,, all you heard were soundbites from him.

Look it up yourself, so you can then say,,

Ha,, See!

"You sure didn't hear it from Arnold during the campaign,, all you heard were soundbites from him."

Arnold didn't spend 20 years on the government payroll becoming an expert on these matters -

- and it's hard to find information that dosen't exist ( Toms digging out and exposing of this waste )

So Tom is not a waste fighter, is that what you are implying?

I'm looking at any number of proposals from a 1995 budget assessment that makes recommendations of the elimination and privatizations of a number of state agencies, commissions, etc , some of which would in turn include the sale and turnover of the assets (thus leaving a lot of stuff as surplus) associated with them.

I guess that doesn't count in your book, huh?

Good for Arnold. Only thing is will they residents be able to afford the land if the price gets hiked up by some developer.

"So has the Mills Land and Water Co., the original owner of the land that was forced to sell to Caltrans in the 1960s, when the state planned a full-scale highway along the oceanfront."

It was planned to convert the Pacific Coast Hwy. to a Freeway, but was defeated at the polls.

But the land was apparently already "confiscated" by eminent domain, for "fair market value."

If Mills wants it back, they should have first right of refusal. The price should NOT be today's fair market value. The price should be the confiscation price, plus interest.

Those four acres could be worth a lot, or worth little. The key is what the city will "entitle" to be built there.

That is another scandal. This is very prime property. It has been underutilized for decades. The market now reflects the true value, and a luxury resort hotel was just opened a few blocks from this parcel.

Nope - What I'm saying is exactly what I said - Arnold did not have 20 years studying the problems, yet HE is starting to find and implement solutions.
Tom had 20 years to locate and bring these to OUR attention, yet he was ineffective in doing so - In this particular case even when he was trying to show all the good he has done to get us to elect him Gov he did not point to all of this.
He may or may not have been a great fighter, but if he had been an EFFECTIVE one, he might be Gov. today.

Oh, I see..

If he had played the game of politics as it had been played the last 30 plus years in California, He could have been somebody.. and then his ideas, proposals and efforts would count.

Gee, I guess we better get rid of him and all the conservative republicans in the state government, huh?

They have been totally ineffective as the socialists and the moderates have delivered us from evil... and continue to hold the reins of power and now the governor's seat.

gee. I should learn how to use the sarcasm tag.. but I think you get my drift.

With supporters like you working inside the conservative movement, this state will stay screwed for a long time, imo.

Maybe I just don't care as much about what a person calls themself - What I want is people in office who are able to effectively translate the actions that I think the government should take into reality -

Are you seriously defending your guys ineffectiveness as being because " the other guys got more votes " ?

No, IMNHO, it's more like "if he'd actually WORKED the damn problem instead of merely TALKING about how he woulda-could-shoulda-worked the probem, he might have actually spotted this problem and gotten it solved."

What contortions of thought you folks drag yourselves thru, just to ram it home to a guy who has not been silent, and was willing to say the unpopular things in debates and back it up, something the big guy wasn't willing to do.

Good old Pete Wilson supporters, no doubt, who really wish he was irrelevant. Tom was just born in the wrong century, I guess. He would have fit in much more readily with the Revolutionary era folks.

Many of us here do believe with him on a multitude on issues. This state needs radical reform and so far, all I see and hear is a lot of rhetoric and attacks on those who support overhauling the state government and the way it does business.

Arnold claims to be the man to lead us out of the desert, I wish it were so, but I'm not so sure he has any more clues than quite a few in this forum who suck up soundbites like anteaters at an anthill.

McClintock was certainly not silent...but he said precious little of substance.

If he was as good at analyzing the budget as he claimed, this issue should have jumped right out at him, and he should've spoken up as soon as it did.

He said nothing. Whether it be because he decided to not speak out, or because he never even learned about this issue despite his extensive experience...his silence remains deafening.

Good old Pete Wilson supporters, no doubt, who really wish he was irrelevant.

McClintock is irrelevant--by his own choice.

Tom was just born in the wrong century, I guess. He would have fit in much more readily with the Revolutionary era folks.

No, they would've dismissed him as the loudmouth blowhard he is.

Many of us here do believe with him on a multitude on issues. This state needs radical reform and so far, all I see and hear is a lot of rhetoric and attacks on those who support overhauling the state government and the way it does business.

He hasn't even tried to do anything; he's just talked a lot about how we need radical reform. That may impress you. It does not impress me.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion.

I respectfully disagree on your remarks re: him not saying anything or seeing the opportunities that the state could avail itself of by privatizing/selling off agencies and state assets and get a more efficient return on state resources for all.

Now, how about the original topic of the thread?

Well, I think all of agree that Arnold is doing a good thing by getting this straightened out - only some of us do not want to give him the credit the Governator richly deserves...
