More like suburbia is moving into the coyotes area. Think about it ... suburbia is a perfect place for coyotes. Plenty of tasty garbage to eat, and easy-to-catch fresh pet meat if they have a yen for something raw. Lots of nice dry places to build a den. No competition, except from the odd skunk, cat, or car...
It's not at all surprising they'd move into suburbia.

It's actually going both ways. Population pressures are also pushing cougars deep into suburban areas such as Redmond, WA, where there had been no cougars for decades.

Coyotes are the only predator in North America that has expanded its range in the last 200 years. In the 18th Century, they were found in California, the Great Basin, and down through western Texas and Northern Mexico. Today, they're found from Alaska to New England and down to Central America. Partly this is because other predators--namely wolves, have been exterminated from some of those areas, but also because they're very very good at eking out a living on the fringes of human settlements.
