Apparently, there are just some things you don't say in politics. Politicians know it. You don't call your opponent crooked or a liar (directly).
I don't know...."Bush lied" has been the democrat mantra for months now, and Ted Kennedy has said much worse things. The AWOL stuff, which is a felony, was worse than this, IMHO.

Like in baseball. You can argue with the ump, shout, yell, spit, kick dirt but if you touch him -- bang -- you're out of the game.
