Another movie star who served in the Navy during WWII was Tony Curtis. Here's a link to a photo of him in uniform:

Tony Curtis

I was in Washington several years ago doing research at the National Archives. Right across the street is the Navy Memorial. While having lunch at a small shop, I learned that they were having a ceremony at the memorial and that Tony Curtis was going to be there. I ran back to my car and got my camera. I think it was right around cherry blossom time in D.C., and Mr. Curtis was the Grand Marshall for the parade that was going to be taking place. If my memory serves me well, Curtis was on the U.S.S. Missouri when the surrender was signed.

Do I dare look at Tony Curtis in uniform? I don't know. I'm a married woman. The combination of Tony Curtis and military uniform could be hazardous. Well, one little peek can't hurt.

Oh, no! Is it getting warm in here?

Jason Robards, IIRC, was a Radioman 3rd on one of the ships in Pearl Harbour on Dec. 7, 1941.

Lee Marvin was a combat infantryman, I believe in the Marines. ISTR that Charles Bronson was also in ground combat. Jimmy Stewart and Clark Gable went into the air corps once the war started and Stewart stayed in the Reserves and made general, and flew just about everything. Gable was an aerial gunner.

At his request, I broke into a safe in the Waikiki hotel room in which Tony Curtis was staying.

When I arrived, with security gaurds in tow; room service had just delivered his supper. Mr Curtis asked the security gaurds to leave, and invited me to join him for the meal.

I spent the next 45 minutes enjoying a meal, and conversation, with Tony Curtis....just the two of us.

I never broached the subject of Hollywood, movies, watching him since I was a toddler, or how hot his daughter was(Trading Places had just released). I never gave any indication that I recognized him at all, and fancy that was the primary reason he requested my company.

He was very pleasant company, and the conversation was relaxed & quite enjoyable.

Most of the people I have shared this with have no idea who Tony Curtis is. Always being surrounded by children sucks.
