[history]
For years, Georgia has raised money for wildlife protection by selling custom license plates with wildlife scenes. Sales skyrocketed this year for new tags featuring the bald eagle and the American flag.
But some environmentalists say they do not want to contribute to the state's wildlife protection fund through a flag-waving symbol they believe will be seen as being linked to President Bush.

Environmentalists will not support wildlife protection if it is associated with the American flag. Yep. That says it all.

Outrage motivated by nit-picking. They appear less and less significant with every passing day.

But... but I thought Harold Dean said Democrats wanted to take back the flag from Rush Limbaugh!
Looks like he was wrong. They don't want the flag at all.

Personally I've never understood why states need 40 or 50 plate designs. It's just a tax sticker not a billboard.

No one should be surprised by this - if the truth be known, many of the same folks whose ire was raised over the display of the Confederate flag are equally perturbed by the flying of the American flag.

"While a handful of liberal environmentalists claim the bald eagle and Old Glory together implies support for President Bush, big business and the war in Iraq, state wildlife officials say when they test-marketed several license plate designs, the eagle and flag tag came in first."
Overall, a real coup for the Bush Administration. Not only do good honest Americans associate patriotic symbols with our President, but now so does the enemy.
Teehee.

I suppose it could be said that the flag and the eagle are now Republican symbols as the Dems have repudiated anything they stand for. Mr. Moody might prefer a turkey with its beak up in the rain, drowning.

Environmentalist are showing their true allegiance and dedication to their core beliefs. I believe they need to volunteer for the military and serve in the Middle East so they can protect the environment over there that is in more danger of damage than the environment in the US. Naww...that would be too hard. Pissing and moaning like a six year old is easier.
To: ZGuy
Environmentalism is a shortcut to Marxism.
"Environmentalists" care nothing about the environment, it is property rights and ownership they are after.
This just shows it.

This makes me sad that anyone would just connect the flag and the eagle with politics or war.
Why do they not connect the flag and the eagle with what they symbolize, the land that I love ...our country, the United States of America?.

More money. The vanity plates cost extra.
The state has an ugly design for the free one (such as Florida), so people want to buy the vanity ones.
