A Holiday for Abortion?-John Kerry's far-Left supporters have chosen this day to celebrate abortion

John Kerry's far-Left supporters have chosen this day -- March 10 -- to celebrate abortion.

Today, March 10th, is a holiday with which you may not be familiar: the National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers.

The very fact that such a “holiday” exists—created in 1996 and co-sponsored by more than twenty major groups, including Planned Parenthood and National Organization for Women (NOW)—says everything you need to know about John Kerry’s leftist supporters.

Most ordinary Americans who identify themselves as “pro-choice” would be disgusted that abortion providers are being hailed as heroes. Even to people who support keeping the procedure legal, abortion is something to be tolerated, not glorified.

The National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers, however, cannot be dismissed as something concocted by fringe elements. Aside from Planned Parenthood and NOW, it is endorsed by such mainstream “pro-choice” groups as National Abortion Rights Action League and the American Civil Liberties Union.

The abortionist appreciation “holiday" was founded by the far-Left group Refuse and Resist. It openly call for the U.S. government to "Release the Detainees," "Free Mumia Abu-Jamal" and "End the Unjust Occupation of Iraq." Refuse and Resist's recommendations for observing this "holiday" include such as activities as “local appreciation day events,” asking people to use their “imagination, creativity and dedication to help create a climate” where abortionists “can hold their heads high.”

The Refuse and Resist website also encourages people to give gifts to their friendly local abortion providers. What do you get someone after a long day of doing what most abortion rights supporters consider gruesome? A “breakfast basket of fruit or muffins” is recommended.

The money behind this holiday’s co-sponsors reads like a who’s who of limousine liberals: Ford Foundation, both the Hewlett and Packard Foundations, Warren Buffett’s foundation, and the former Mr. Jane Fonda’s shingle, the Turner Foundation.

The wizard behind the curtain of most of the primary groups co-sponsoring the “holiday,” though, is the Left’s new favorite sugardaddy: George Soros. His Open Society Institute funded all but two of the twenty-two co-sponsors, for a total of over $6 million between 2000 and 2002.

Searching through the Foundation Center’s massive grant database, it becomes quickly apparent that the largest grants—and likely the majority of the overall grant money—to the co-sponsors of the abortionist appreciation day comes from the six leftist foundations.

Oh, each of the foundations besides Buffet’s gave significant amounts of cash to one of Teresa Heinz Kerry’s favorite non-profits: the Tides Foundation.

In a world without large-dollar soft money contributions, the contributions of the foundations’ directors to Kerry’s campaign are hardly substantial.

That said, the financial backers of the abortionist appreciation day’s co-sponsors also bankroll any number of sworn Bush enemies, such as moveon.org, the Progressive Policy Institute, Brookings Institute, the ACLU, Sierra Club, and Planned Parenthood.

And since records of grants given to various non-profits don’t become available for more than a year, it’s unknown how much money is going from the “Big Six” foundations to groups participating in this year’s anti-Bush, pro-Kerry coalition.

Smart money, though, says truckloads and truckloads—or more appropriately, yacht-loads and yacht-loads.

Sugardaddy Soros has already larded more than $15 million on anti-Bush forces in this election cycle alone.

Given Kerry’s unequivocal support of abortion rights over the years—even opposing both the ban partial birth abortion and legislation protecting unborn victims of violence—the Big Six seem right in sync with the Massachusetts liberal.

But both the foundations and Kerry are way out of sync with the American public.

Gallup has found for three years running that the country is evenly split between self-identified “pro-life” and “pro-choice” voters. The divide is actually bridged, to a degree, by a shared distaste for abortion itself. The many who support the decision of Roe v. Wade want abortion to be, in the words of former President Bill Clinton, “safe, legal, and rare.” Only the most morbid personality would want to celebrate abortion.

Except the likes of Warren Buffett, Ted Turner, and George Soros and their newest political water-carrier—John Kerry

Why are they bothering to pretend. Just set up an altar and start a fire beneath it.

What's next? A "National Day of Appreciation for Pedophiles" courtesy of NAMBLA? Or what about a "National Day of Appreciation for Homicide Bombers" courtesy of CAIR?

Why I am reminded of 1984?
