Also, that a leading conservative site like 'Free Republic' has determined that VDARE is 'racist' or whatever the charge is an indictment of FRepublic.

It is the left that makes bogus charges of racism and bigotry and xenophobia agaisnt those who dare not tow PC, multicultural line on matters dealing with race/ethnicity. They do it for several reasons. One is to stifle debate. They know theirs is an unpopular position, so they seek prevent a real debate from happening. They try to demonize the messenger so as to taint the message. Another reason is because it fulfills their need for self-righteous indignation.

Why a conservative site like this does it is more of a mystery. I guess it eases some white guilt the moderators may have. But whatever the case, it is sad because it shows they have ceded the high ground to the left, that they are playing by their rules, that certain ideas and speech is verboten in polite society.

I mean, apparently FRepublic views VDARE no differently than that fraud of group called the Southern Poverty Law Center that goes aroud calling people racist for not echoing the leftwing platitudes that dominate discussion of racial/ethnic matters.

I really don't think that will matter. He might only win by 55% instead of 65%.

And besides, if he's running for Pres., why doesn't he get it out now instead of wait for when it really matters?

a few of my thoughts FWIW...

The fact that Owens decided not to run confirms his interest to be on the national ticket in '08. If his marital problems were a significant detriment, IMO, he would have run for the Senate which we could have won despite any infidelities.

I agree that Udall is definitely in,

Salazar would be the strongest opponent but I think he will hold his water for the '06 governor's race, as will my favorite candidate, Mike Coffman.

McInnis is now the GOP front-runner and should be favored no matter the dem opponent in the general election.

Tancredo would bring in a lot of donations, unfortunately a lot would come from Democratic interests... he should stay out (and I voted for him twice-I like him)

Why McInnis will win...

He will easily carry the GOP controlled front-range areas such as Araphoe County, Douglas County, the Colorado Springs area, Ft. Collins, Weld County, etc.

He will easily win the western slope

He will lose big in Denver and Boulder but will fare better in Pueblo (unless Salazar runs).

My guess right now--McInnis wins 55-57% of the vote against Udall or 52% against Salazar.

I'd prefer Tancredo. Then there would be at least one Senator who gives expression to the majority, mainstream position of Americans on mass legal and illegal immigration (which btw is for illegal immigration to be stopped and legal immigration to be reduced). Plus he is conservative on most all other issues as well.

However, McGinnis pretty much shares the same views as Tancredo with regards to immigration, doesn't he? If so he would be good, though I think Tancredo would be less likely to be converted to the dark side by Karl Rove.

As for VDARE, wasn't it banned for an article that pointed out a simple truth; that the GOP relies overwhelmingly on white votes and that it should put more effort into getting more of these votes from the group most naturally inclined to support them? VDARE may push the envelope sometimes, but most of their articles are expressions of mainstream, conservative views on things like immigration and affirmative action. They are more in touch on those issues than President Bush or the GOP leadership.

I don't speak for Free Republic.

However, I support their decision on VDare. It's extremely important that people who are serious about stopping illegal immigration stick to arguments about legality and not open themselves to charges of racism.

Yep you are right on your analysis.

Seems if McInnis runs Coffman might stay put and run for Gov in 06..

Or Coofman may run for congress seat of TomT runs for senate.

Salazar will be strong candidate for rats not Udall..I hope Udall runs....
*MCiinis will not get more than 55% of the vote.

I thought McInnis wants to run for governor in '06.

One small item that seems to be missing from virtually all the posts.

Rutt Bridges was begged by the Democrat party to run and entered the race three days before Campbell said he was not running. Bridges is a multimillionaire and will have the money to mount a funded campaign. Udall said he was not running until Campbell withdrew. If Udall gets in now he will be have to fight Bridges for the spot. It's still up in the air as to what the Democrat party is going to do. They seem to caught with their pants down, again.

Tancredo may not be that bad of a candidate.

Illegal immigration won't hurt him as much in Colorado as say California or New Mexico.

He has won in a leaning-Republian suburban Denver district with his conservative record. If he could carry his district by a healthy margin, he could win against Udall.

He definitely did want to run for governor but that was before Campbell decided to step down. Some may remember that back in 1998 McInnis was making serious noise about challenging Campbell in the GOP primary (that was Campbell's first election after switching parties). According to inside sources, McInnis was talked out of making a run but he clearly coveted the Senate seat back in '98.

You might be right about the 55% of the vote against Udall but he (Udall) has voted far left the last couple of years which will come back to haunt him. Udall's main selling point, the environment, will be muted against McInnis who represents more mountain communites than Udall.

To be fair, Tancredo's district is more than "leaning Republican", after the last redistricting it became the most GOP district in the state (and it has always been a represented by the GOP since it was established in 1982).

Not that it really matters since you have no say in it but who would you like to see run in Colorado?

A Republican that can win.

McInnis had over $1.3 million on hand at the end of 2003.
Tancredo and Udall each had $500k.

Your right, of the remaining potential candidates, McInnis is in the best financial position.

I hope McInnis announces soon and that some of the other prospective candidates stay out. Only McInnis can win by landslide margins in the Western Slope and make it impossible for the RATs to steal the Senate seat.

We need Beauprez to run for reelection to the House. Tancredo does some good work in the House, but is too abrasive and would not run well outside his district. Schafer would make a good Senator, but he would not be as strong a candidate as McInnis.

If I'm not mistaken, there are currently no Republican Senators who sport a mustache. Hopefully McInnis and Herman Cain of Georgia will change that come January of 2005.

Went after an honor roll student but not the illegals that put in his home stereo.

How many times do you have to be told? Tancredo was in D.C. when that work was done and the workers were hired by an independent contractor. Tancredo had nothing to do with it!

btw- Alleged on the Klinger act...but check his service "record".

Yeah, that's really alleged! Doesn't Tancredo have about four kids?

BTW! You always post in favor of illegal aliens, don't you?

This is bad news. I suppose that Congressman Scott McInnis would be the best candidate to run. He has a base in the marginal Western Slope and $1.3 million cash-on-hand, and a record that's solidly conservative but not vulnerable to charges of extremeism. I hope he announces soon. And I hope the 'Rats nominate femi-nazi Congresswoman Diana DeGette, aka Pat Schroeder, Jr.
