I'd say "unbeleivable" but in California, it's really not.

I am amazed we are even having too entertain the thought of strange (queer) marriages and its ramifications in child voting laws.

Just think of what unruly places the polling place would become. Kids on their scooters hanging out thinking they had a "free day"... terrorizing the nice elderly people who typicaly man these places.

The last thing I want to see is a Super Big Gulp cup in my voting booth.

And I love Super Big Gulps.

oh lord, if this happened, I could see my son voting for Gene Simmons as a write in candidate. (OK...he inherated his dad's taste in Music *L*)

"People who are given opportunity when it counts often live up to it," said Vasconcellos

Well if that is true then why this:

Coming on the heels of an expected record low turnout

They've yet to appease the liberal sect when it comes to voting. Now they'll have 14-17 year-olds needing IDs so they can vote.

A truant officer's nightmare.

I propose raising it to 30. And while my idea might be less popular, it's undeniably better.

I think they already do register their pets. Along with dead grandmas, etc.

Let's see... A 14 year old is mature enough to vote and control the government, but no adult is mature enough to own a gun. California socialist logic, I guess.

"Coming on the heels of an expected record low turnout among adults in the March 2 election, Vasconcellos would give 16-year-olds a half vote and 14-year-old a quarter vote in state elections beginning in 2006. "
"This would make it much easier for liberals to buy elections. I can see it now: Vote for me-- get a CD!"

Well, considering how many abortions have been performed in the last 30 years ... just how many kids do you think actually exist?

Why is Social Security in danger?

Why is the 'burden' going to be so great on our children/grand children?

The taxpayers have been murdered from the womb.

A agree with another reply here ... the Socialists are freaked.

So, to raise all taxes, just give the right to vote to MORE people who don't pay taxes.

It wasn't until my late teens that I became a liberal and supported Paul Tsongas.

Tsongas wasn't so bad for a Democrat, as I recall. He would have been a better president than Clinton (I know, that's not saying much).

I've got a better idea. 71 year olds should be barred from introducing absurd legislation.

So let the public schools teach civics and hold mock elections as I did as a child growing up in the 1960's, instead of this 1/2,1/4 vote drivil.

I remember a feeling of sadness and despair when Carter won in '76. I was five. ;-) Not joking!

And when I was 9, I watched the Republican debates and picked Reagan as my favorite and my parents agreed with me.

But the NAMBLA thing is a terrifying thought. Other issues would arise, too, on this issue and it's a bad idea.
