Sorry but you are wrong. I saw that interview and he didn't say his wife was going to hell, he said it was easier for him to get to heaven. There is a big difference there.

It's funny how the press all but forgot Gibson's notrious repuation as a consumate jokester when he made the remarks about his wife and Frank Rich's dog. Any one who has seen Gibson on talks shows and then read those remarks knows he was jest'joshing.

Gibson, interviewed by the Herald Sun in Australia, was asked if Protestants are denied eternal salvation. "There is no salvation for those outside the (Catholic) church," Gibson replied. "I believe it... Put it this way. My wife is a saint. She's a much better person than I am. Honestly. She's, like, Episcopalian, Church of England. She prays, she believes in God, she knows Jesus, she believes in that stuff. And it's just not fair if she doesn't make it; she's better than I am. But that is a pronouncement from the chair. I go with it."

Yes, he backtracked later, but I think what he says first is closer to what he truly believes, as with anyone's statements.
