If Martha Stewart going to prison will rid the market of
sleazy traders and insiders, we'll all be rich.

"...she will get 10-24 months."Not too bad, considering that she was convicted on 4 felony counts and the maximum is 20 years.
To: dwilli
...to put her in an orange jumpsuit is silly. Take what she apparently loves most, money and sophistication. Aren't they the same thing?

Why do I feel that Hillary Clinton should be on that list?
To: OldFriend
She has been publicly humiliated in the worst way. This is what's killing her, a huge blow to her bloated ego. She will serve 14 months or so which is no big deal. It's the public humiliation which is also trashing the value of her enterprises.
IOW, when she emerges from prison she will be worth 100 million instead of 500 million

"Do you really think the streets and neighborhoods are safer because Martha Stewart is occupying prison space?"No, but our investments will be safer because of the example made of her.
Why don't you just fess up to being a Martha Stewart Groupie and get over it. Your defenses have been as shallow as her TV shows!

Isn't it enough for you that the judge through out the count that would send her to prison for 10 years mandatory? Why on earth do you think rules should be applied situationally.

Notice the mistaken notion of the meals on wheels "punishment". The idea is that Martha would be "helping" people. No, the idea of ppunishment should be to take someone out of hte idea that they are in the position of helping others. The penitent is the one who neeeds the help. She is not is a position to give it. This is why the liberals and the left have "corrections" all wrong.

"If Martha Stewart were Jane Jones from Tupelo, Mississippi, no one would be thinking her sentencing was silly."
If Martha were Bill Clinton from Hope AR, she would be home scott free and be the superstar of the Democrat party.

If Martha Stewart going to prison will rid the market of sleazy traders and insiders, we'll all be rich. Yes, it's a good start, isn't it?
To: dwilli
"Do you really think the streets and neighborhoods are safer because Martha Stewart is occupying prison space?"Do you believe only violent criminals should serve prison time? Shall we exempt counterfeiters, embezzlers, traitors, spies and thieves?
To: Bonaparte
counterfeiters, embezzlers, traitors, spies and thieves? You would consider what she did fitting her into those categories?

Civil lawsuits are lined up against Martha. It will be years and years before she is out from under the monetary threats.

Martha's clumsy attempt at tax evasion gives her yet another thing in common with good ol'
Sam Waksal...
On 3/3/03, Samuel Waksal, founder of ImClone Systems, pleaded guilty in Manhattan federal court to conspiracy and wire fraud arising from a scheme to evade over $1 million of state sales tax on art he had purchased. The basic scheme was to purchase expensive art for delivery out of state but for its real use in New York City. Sometimes empty boxes containing the art actually went to New Jersey and came back shortly to New York city; sometimes empty boxes were sent to New Jersey and the art itself went from the gallery to the New York city residence.
To: OldFriend
Yes, but he has admitted he misled the hearing members.
Should he have gone to jail?

"If Martha Stewart going to prison will rid the market of sleazy traders and insiders, we'll all be rich."It will rid the market of one sleazy inside trader, at least for a year or two. That's good enough for me, because some justice is better than no justice. Did you read the article in post 40? The woman you're championing is a career crook.
