What's curious about this (to me at least) is that he's got hard coded IP addresses, and can't ping the router. This seems to indicate the router is losing it's IP configuration. It's like the ISP is giving a 24 hour lease to the router via DHCP, but the router's internal clock is off by 12 hours (am/pm toggled), so the dhcp server is giving it a 24 hour lease, but the router thinks it's only good for 12 hours, and doesn't seem to be requesting a renewal.

Check the "data" light on your cable modem. If it blinks, you are probably connected to your ISP.

Both PCs have static IP addresses that I configured.

Change the setting to receive an IP address dynamically. Once you are back online, run ipconfig /all and check the "lease expires" time.

I can't think of a good reason to set the LAN computers to have static IP's. The router should have a dhcp server and will offer the computers on the LAN a private IP (192.168.x.x, most likely).

The issue here seems to be with the WAN IP, and since the only time I ever had any issues with getting a WAN IP (from the DHCP server at the ISP) was when my MAC address got screwed up, that is why I offered that as something to look into.

But it seems the problem is something else ...

Get a Linksys cable/DSL router and replace those PCs for Macs and the problem is solved.

It seems (to me, at least) to be more than just the WAN IP, because he can't ping the router by it's local (192.168.x.x) address either.

Go here http://www.dslreports.com and check-out the forums. There will be one for your router hardware and also a seperate forum for your dsl/cable provide.

That's the best place for technical assistance.

It might be a new inactivity timeout policy set at the Time Warner server end (one never knows). Might try setting up a ping -t command or script to keep the connection alive, just to see what happens. These things should not be necessary, but sometimes they are.

I have a Time Warner cable modem and have had to call their customer service three times. All three times I received excellent, even outstanding, service by someone here in the states.

I think their service here in western Ohio is among the best computer related service departments I have ever done business with.
