Bush, Fox, promote plan to ease immigration laws

Crawford, Texas - President Bush and Mexican President Vicente Fox joined forces Saturday to promote Bush's plan for easing immigration laws, as Bush acknowledged that the proposal faces a tough time in Congress.

Standing side-by-side in bright sunshine at Bush's Texas ranch, the two leaders said Bush's plan for a new temporary worker program would help both countries by eliminating the underground market for Mexican workers. The proposal would let an estimated 8 million workers who are in the United States illegally gain legal status as guest workers.

"The people who come to this country make a significant contribution to the American economy," Fox told reporters.

Bush's plan, announced in January, has raised expectations in Mexico and among illegal workers in this country, but it has little chance of passing Congress this year. Republican critics say the proposal would reward illegal immigrants; Democrats complain that it does not do enough to help foreign workers become U.S. citizens.

I'm furious about this. It is President Fox's responsibility to take care of the citizens of Mexico--not the President of the USA. This whole thing makes me sick.

I've also called my congressman's (Duncan Hunter) office to let him know my feelings. I also let him know I did NOT vote for him on Tuesday (3/2) and will not vote Republican until this issue gets resolved.

It was these kind of immigration laws and the terrible job practice of checking the people we allowed into the country that opened the door to the Sept. 11 2001 hijackers getting in easily.

We didn't learn a thing. Oh well. Political correctness kills in the end. We also need racial profiling. This is integral to preventing new terror attacks.

Do you know that EACH illegal alien costs the state of California $55,000 per year? Most of them are on welfare, food stamps, free medical, free everything. >>>>>>

FREE everything in CA, & jobs that pay no taxes.........might be the reasons the *poor illegals* have successfully invaded one of our most EXPENSIVE states to live in.

I think this is an impossible group-

What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it. And I don't like it any more than you..

I am cursed with Jane Harman. She doesn't even acknowledge letters or phone calls if the subject is illegal immigration. She is a co-sponsor to one of the proposals for "guestworkers" (amnesty). She and George Bush make a great pair (Rep/Dem) - no difference anymore.

How's that for a cheap head of lettuce?

I'm going stop growing cabbage and tomato's my garden and switch to lettuce. If we ever deport them illegals and at $8.00 a head, I'd have me a small fortune. Just joking.

Some of my coworkers have been bellyaching about our medical plan costing more. From what I'm hearing they better get use to paying more.

Meanwhile, my leader and president will find real solutions to real problems, as he always does.

This argument is so weak. There have been hundreds of solutions suggested here, and everywhere else. Bush has opted to choose none of them. Their agenda of wide open borders is clear. They have no desire to stop this attack on our sovereignty. It's not part of his "plan".

Incredibly stupid. All other issues pale in comparison. Our culture, language and people are being displaced in our own country. I can't even hold my nose and vote for Bush any more. This is a tragic situation.
Large swaths of Houston look like third world enclaves.
The illegals live with 2-4 families in one house, making it allmost intolerable to contend with. The blacks are being ran out of the ghettos and are being displaced right along with the whites. Their crime rate is astronomical.
All other considerations aside, the cost of social services to the (thanks to the Supreme Court) are breaking us financially.
God help us. Our President isn't.

In regard to your posts #95 and #105, I can handle the truth better than you think. You missed my point.

The problem is that too often, supporters of illegal immigration will neatly cast those of us who oppose illegal immigration as "racist" and anti-Mexican when in fact the REAL racists are the anti-Americans on the other side of the fence.

Because we can't. That is precisely the point. The accord with Fox will (most likely) include that the Mexicans know that they are who they are. The rest we will sort out.
The Integrity of this country is at steak.

Remember that the people that bring you Fresh fruit and Almonds and lettuce and all of other things can not be replaced, not at this time.

Concentrate of the perpetrators of 9/11. You know who they are??

Pardoning 12 million who have broken the law invading this country during a time of war and leaving the borders open - Sorry, but I find THAT irrational

Offering limited amnesty under guest worker status is not exactly a complete "pardon" for entering the country illegally. They will not be on equal legal standing with those who have entered legally.

Besides... NOBODY wants to run for office as the ONLY President who ordered mass deportations of illegals immigrants. He will NEVER be re-elected.

I sent an e-mail to CCIR (California Coalition for Immigration Reform), asking how illegal aliens are able to collect welfare. This was the response:

"They need not use fake ID. They are asked if they have a job - any income. They answer NO. They are asked about what they own....car, house, furniture, etc. They answer NOTHING. That's all there is to it..... they "meet the poverty level" and they're "home free". Even those who are wealthy people in their own countries give these answers and the U.S. NEVER CHECKS!"

Do you think that illegal aliens should be collecting welfare? Do you think that it is the responsibility of American taxpayers to support illegal aliens? You don't answer any questions, you just tell us how wrong we are. WHY?

(Duncan Hunter)

Don't take this out on Duncan Hunter. He's a member of the Immigration Reform Caucus in the House of Reps. I believe he allies himself with Rep. Tom Tancredo on most of the immigration issues. I'd hate to see you vote out someone who maybe on our side.

And this "threat"; means we should elect a liberal Democrat to the White House. Right.

With a Republican Congress, I would have no problem with that. It wouldn't be the best of all worlds. Divided, do nothing government. But at least it would stop this, CAFTA and FTAA in it's tracks.

Maybe next time we get a pubbie in office, they might worry more about America than Mexico!

That's not true, if INS finds a person is illegal they go through the standard process of deportation those are the ones they know about, typically the ones letting the INS know they are here. The problem is the INS is under staffed and most illegals are unknown.

It wasn't a letter, it was an e-mail. If you doubt me, send an e-mail to: barb@ccir.net. She is the lady who answered my e-mail. Write her and ask her yourself.
