BTW, they can and often do move the stuff offshore, but some recent legislation has curtailed that as well.

I wasn't concerned about the prostitution law being enforced; I was concerned that the Government can tell a business what it can and can't do. However, Wirestripper makes a good point: it is illegal to offer services to an illegal operation. I can understand that.

I'm not talking about the "escort" service; I'm talking about the phone company. (If I take your response incorrectly, then,....never-mind. :)

Although I HATE the phone company. Bell South. I'm paying thru the nose for internet and phone service. I'm just waiting for the day when a cellphone-linked computer is cheap enough to use. Then BYE-BYE Bell! :)

What frosts me are all those extra charges, like that internet use fee. I think that came from Algore.

Okay, since I only read the excerpt, it sounded like the police were just shutting off phone lines to businesses. It was part of a larger court case. I stand corrected.

Now, you bring up an interesting point with the offshoring stuff. What's to stop someone from 'pimping' from another country via e-mail or Web site? E-mail a pimp in, say the Cayman Islands, that you want a girl tonight and he sets it up via e-mail. What crime was committed in U.S. there? I would bet that the strongest case for the crime was the actual prositution itself, not in the proposal with someone outside the country.

I know that AT&T has had cases involving the Caymans.

I know that it is not done anymore, but how they stopped or slowed it down is not in my memory.

Something was done in Congress a couple years ago with the FCC. (nothing to do with patriot)

It stopped a bunch of it, whatever they did.(had to do with dial a porn)

Ho-hum. Stuff like this is an annual "Rite of Spring" in Nashville. You can bet your ass that every year around March they're gonna either bust video poker machines or hassle the hookers. They're a little more active than usual during an election year.

Also, the new Police Chief is out to establish a reputation early.

not in the proposal with someone outside the country.

Phone tap perhaps.

good question, as the proposal is what they use for intent.

BTW, Just in case you wondered, I was in favor of the courts decision to rescind the indecency stuff a couple years ago.

I was on the libertarian side of that issue. One of the few that I join forces with them on.
