Pleasantly Perfect out of Big 'Cap with fever By BETH HARRIS, AP Sports Writer March 5, 2004
AP - Mar 4, 2:51 pm EST More Photos ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) -- Pleasantly Perfect won't run in the Santa Anita Handicap on Saturday because of a fever.
That leaves the $1 million race without its 6-5 morning line favorite. But trainer Richard Mandella still has a horse in the 1 1/4 -mile race with Olmodavor, the 6-1 third choice.
Mandella said Pleasantly Perfect's temperature registered 102 degrees at 6:30 a.m. Friday. Later in the morning, the horse's temperature had returned to normal, which is about 100 degrees, and he resumed eating his hay.
The field, in post position order with jockeys and weights: Saint Buddy, Tyler Baze, 111 pounds; Southern Image, Victor Espinoza, 118; Royal Palace, Jose Valdivia Jr., 111; Island Fashion, Kent Desormeaux, 115; Star Cross, Corey Nakatani, 114; Toccet, Emile Ramsammy, 113; Olmodavor, Smith, 119; and Buddy Gil, Gary Stevens, 117.
