BARRY AMUNDSON,
DESIGNER AND IT MANAGER

Barry Amundson is the graphic designer, as well as information technology manager for Fenton’s San Francisco office. He has worked on Web sites for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-funded child safety organization, Safe Passages, among others, as well as advertising for the Polly Klaas Foundation and American Medical Association.

Amundson has 10 years’ experience in advertising, marketing and the web both as a designer and as a computer systems administrator. A former art director at Circle.com, he has worked for branding firm Addison Design, Foote, Cone & Belding, TBWA/Chiat/Day, and other leading ad agencies. His design work for nonprofits includes logo creation for EarthShare of California’s ‘Earth Stars’ workplace giving program and Web design for Intersection for the Arts, a San Francisco theatre space and gallery. He is the co-founder and online coordinator for Peaceful Tomorrows, a Nobel Peace prize-nominated nonprofit advocacy group of 911 family members who are using their voice for peace. He received a B.A. in design and photography from the University of Iowa.

Trevor Fitzgibbon helps oversee communications and public relations strategy for MoveOn.org, MoveOn.org Voter Fund and Win Without War, the mainstream voice of the anti-war movement. He has a decade of experience in public relations and public affairs, specializing in national media relations, government relations, crisis communications, and strategic organizing for elected officials and nonprofit environmental groups. Fitzgibbon’s messaging and PR efforts on behalf of MoveOn.org have helped position the online advocacy group as a national political force in American life. He has secured national exposure for MoveOn.org’s anti-war “Daisy ad” campaign and the more recent Bush “Misleader” campaign. His work on MoveOn.org’s effort to prevent the Federal Communications Commission from rolling back laws designed to prevent even greater media monopoly helped trigger more than 300,000 signatures in protest and a bi-partisan Senate agreement to block the proposed changes.

Fitzgibbon oversees and implements message development and regularly places guests and stories on “Meet the Press” “Face the Nation,” “This Week” and other opinion-leading national network news programs. He also serves as Fenton’s primary liaison between clients and musicians and celebrities such as R.E.M., Pearl Jam, Jack Black, Jessica Lange, and Janeane Garofalo. Prior to his time at Fenton, he worked for a variety of environmental groups and congressional campaigns.

Drawing a crowd

Big-name Hollywood entertainers and other notable liberals have aligned themselves with the organization. They include comedians Al Franken and Janeane Garofalo, singers Moby and Alanis Morissette, and actors Michael Moore, Julia Stiles and Benicio Del Toro.

MoveOn.org also has benefited from the financial support of billionaire financier George Soros and Progressive Corp. chairman and chief executive Peter B. Lewis, who pledged $5 million to the MoveOn.org Voter Fund in the form of a matching grant.

Soros, who delivered a stinging address on Bush's foreign policy Monday, was one of the VIPs glowing after Gore's speech.

"I thought it was very good," Soros said afterward. "It was interesting and effective."

Soros has made it a top priority to oust Bush, and he said Monday he would pour more money into the effort if necessary. He already has given $15.5 million to three groups on the left.

Part of MoveOn.org's growth can be attributed to the aggressive public relations crew at Fenton Communications, which has offices in New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. At Thursday's event, Fenton staffers hovered near the news media, ready to answer any question that might arise.
