I think his point was the same as yours -- Media is making it seem like an extremely small number of people are larger and more important than they are by running the same story over and over again with minor changes.

You could find more than eighty people, loosely connected to 9/11 victims, who worship the 3 toed sloth by coating themselves with green slime and hanging upside down from trees.

And while I'm on the subject - Can you imagine a group like this after Pearl Harbor demanding peace with Japan? They'd have probably been hung. Which, come to think of it, isn't a bad idea.
