GRAND RAPIDS -- A western Michigan school district told a teacher activated for military duty that he must cover the cost of a substitute during part of his absence and give the district some of his military pay.
At a school board meeting this week, angry teachers, students and district residents criticized the decision by administrators at Kenowa Hills Public Schools.

BB,
I don't know but I am researching it. My first response would be yes but I guarantee I will find out. This is unsat and the word needs to get out! What annoys me the most is that the Superintendant acts like he is giving the guy a break.

Wow. I didn't know that military teachers got so much pay. Aren't Los Angeles class submarines a bit expensive? ;)

This is an easy call. Be assured that these commie-leftist MEA union thugs are behind this. These hardened socialists won't stand for anything decent, like defending this country, the flag, the pledge, etc.
Just a guess on my part. There is a place in our society for lawyers and this is it. Ramp it up.

I know this has been posted about five times already, but I'm still having a hard time believeing it. This has got to be a hoax of a misunderstanding of some sort -- I can't believe any employer could be this unpatriotic.

I did multiple thread searches and didn't find anything. In regards to your statement I thought the same thing. I figured somebody might have some info.

Bernhardt comes out ahead this way. The district had no policy, so they did the best by him that they could. The Detroit Free Press story is confusing and has a bunch of rage misdirected. I wrote about this on my site:
