I expect that there will be an exodus of like-minded people from Europe coming our way soon. If they are like this lady, I am not sure we want them. They will bring their socialism and condescention with them even as they beg for shelter.

Some of us have no desire to leave the United States permanently for another country and no desire to have those return who would leave us, dripping with condescension and nostalgia for Vietnam antiwar demonstrations, when its convenient and return when things get a bit rough in their adopted locales. You made your choice. Stay overseas, Madam.

This, it seems, is their new Maginot line: the sneer of hatred. And we all know just how effective the Maginot line was.

I was born and raised in Europe, lived there for 16 years as European Director for my company. I have nothing but disdain for the inept Europeans who will again experience civil war and revolution in their future. Just because the aristocracy is back and wants to rule it's citizens from the top down.
Yes, I was once an Expatriot also.
However, if we examine this closer, we need to understand the meaning of "EX", since we all know the word Patriot.
If EX means I left the country temporarily to assume my job related duties, that's would describe me. If, on the other hand "EX" is interpreted as disassociating one-self with the Homeland, it may describe this lady's situation. Madam, if your heart belongs to another country, please make a clean break from it, you can't have it both ways?

I thought that was a breathtakingly written, excellent article. Thank you for posting it. I, for one, will welcome this woman with open arms when she decides to come home. Sounds like she has a healthy appreciation of what's GOOD in Europe, while fearing and shunning the evil. We could use a lot more people like her here in the USA.

I agree. She should stay or go somewhere else. She left with her nose in the air and her mind welded shut, feeling somehow threatened by the American fight against communism in early 70's. This is not the type of citizen this great republic needs.

Why dont people just pick up and go while they still can? Europe is showing me why my grandparents left

As I read this piece, I was pleased to see that she had regained some appreciation for the good old USA and that she understood the hardships of her family's migration from Europe decades earlier. I almost liked her. Until I read this zinger:
"Give me empire, my dear Yanks. Come over here and colonize this place so that I can put my suitcases back on top of the closet, keep my swishes and furbelows, my fanfreluches and baubles, my adopted family jewels and Continental airs, and live to a ripe old age here in the center of Paris, in the middle of nowhere."
Uppity dame can darn well stay in Paris, cowering stylishly in her flat. She has nothing to contribute here.

Jews are being persecuted every day in France. Some are insulted, pelted with stones, spat upon; some are beaten or threatened with knives or guns. Synagogues are torched, schools burned to the ground. Get out now. Come back to America or go to Israel but don't stay where you are.
