In a graduate seminar in military history, I recall one young student who intoned the tired old antiwar shibboleth, “It would be nice if they gave a war and nobody showed up.” The professor, a Marine veteran of the Korean War, responded, “Young lady, the aggressor always shows up.”

Peace-niks never get this.

On September 11, 2001, at the behest of radical Islamic jihadist Osama bin Laden, nineteen Muslim terrorists hijacked four American airliners and used them to kill almost twice as many people as the Japanese did with their sneak attack on Pearl Harbor. There was one big difference, however. While most of the people the Japanese killed were soldiers and sailors, except for the military personnel who died in the Pentagon (evidently a ?secondary target?), the vast majority of victims on 9/11 were civilians: men, women and children totally uninvolved in whatever inspired the hatred that drove the terrorists who murderously snuffed out their lives.

According to one engineer I read about in a news story, if the WTC towers had acted as rigid bodies instead of flexible bodies, the torque created by the initial impacts would have knocked them over. In that case, we wouldn't have been talking about 3,000 people dying and comparing it to Pearl Harbor. We would have had 30,00 - 50,000 dead and would be comparing it to Antietam or Gettysburg.

My pet theory is that the first attack which hit the North tower on the 92nd floor (where the impact would generate more torque) was intended to knock it over and cause a chain reaction that would knock down other nearby buildings. The pilots of the second 767 seeing the North Tower still standing but on fire aimed lower on the the South tower to make evacuation more difficult for people in the upper floors. I think that if the first tower had collapsed on impact, the second plane would have also aimed for the upper floors. I have no way to prove this, because most of the conspirators are dead.

Bin Ladin's family made their money constructing high-rises in Saudi Arabia. Osama bin Ladin was trained as a construction engineer. According to stories released after 9/11, he had hoped that the buildings would fall over rather than collapse in on themselves. As you say, that would have killed far more people.

Even as it was, it is only by God's blessing that 20,000 or more weren't killed in the collapse. I have heard of several people who seemingly accidentally didn't get to work on time that morning.

"David didn’t love Goliath to death. "

It was more like David, in righteous anger ["who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the army of the Living God"], slung about a .50 caliber stone right into Goliath's brain pan and hacked Goliath's heard off with his own sword.

Don't ya just gotta love David?

Do you or anyone you know have a list (or know where I can find one) of the terrorist attacks that occurred

I know there was the first World Trade Center bombing in the underground. Then there was a bombing of a Marine barracks in Lebanon, someplace called the Kobar Towers? A couple of embassies in Africa (or just one and the other somewhere else?) The U.S.S. Cole etc. Plus, I believe there is proof somewhere that the OK City bombing was not "domestic" and that Timothy McVeigh was not smart enough to pull that off.

I want to dispel a myth-conspiracy-theory-accusation that the Bush Administration orchestrated the 9-11attack to justify the "War on Terror". One way to do this is to ask who then orchestrated the: insert list here _________ attacks before 9-11.

I have some relatives that have made some outrageous claims and I'm not going to let them go unanswered...even if it cuts us off.

One of great stories in Bible. It shows you God loves humble ones and dislikes haughty ones

Even as it was, it is only by God's blessing that 20,000 or more weren't killed in the collapse.

I remember rather vividly how the networks were scrambling to find relevant people to interview to get their opinions. Fortunately Fox was able to get Newt Gingrich on the phone within perhaps 30 or 40 minutes of the first attack. Fox was interviewing him well before the South tower collapsed. As a professional historian he had really keen insight about the situation. He called it the "Pearl Habor of the 21st century." At the time people were just beginning to die; nobody knew how many people would die, but based on the number of people who could have been in those buildings he thought the numbers could possibly approach those of Antietam or Gettysburg.

“Young lady, the aggressor always shows up.”

Most of them never get this. The others of them advocate surrender.

My first thought at seeing the 2nd tower fall was, "30,000 dead."

Mine too. That moment of dread will be with me forever, and a kind of guilt at the relief of "only" 3,000 dead.

Never forget...

I don't think Kerry is a peacenik. He sided with the communists. That's why he opposed his country and Freedom. Kerry is the aggressor. He is the enemy of Freedom.
