Federal election officials proposed new rules Thursday that could sharply curb the activities of private political groups intent on influencing this year's presidential election.

Although the action by the Federal Election Commission is not final, it drew objections from non-profit groups allied with Democrats who fear that continuing legal uncertainty will dampen their fundraising.

it drew objections from non-profit groups allied with Democrats who fear that continuing legal uncertainty will dampen their fundraising... [I]t could expand the number of political groups that fall under the FEC's regulations. Any group that has as its "major purpose" the influencing of federal elections could be made subject to a contribution limit of $5,000 from an individual, rather than the unlimited contributions they now receive.
Trying to circumvent the so-called campaign finance reform is typical of the Party of the Single Party State, the ever-shrinking "Democratic Party". Here's a word from last summer:
"The Democratic Party Suicide Bill"
by Seth Gitell
July/August 2003
Democrats knew that campaign-finance reform would cripple their fundraising ability -— but they backed the idea anyway, largely on principle. The fate of McCain-Feingold ultimately rests with the Supreme Court. But principle has already cost the Democrats plenty.
Even apart from using "principle" and "Democrats" in the same sentence, that is horsehockey. The whole idea was to try to cripple Republican fundraising and try to still have "volunteers" (employees paid either by the union or by the employer, ultimately all by the employer) from unions be unrestricted. Failing that, they're trying to circumvent the law.

The only Democratic Party in the United States is the Republican Party.

THE FEC IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL AND AN AFFRONT TO LIBERTY AND DEMOCRACY. Show me a presidential candidate ready to throw these bums out and overturn the 1975 FECA, and I'll show you a real leader.
