Gibson's Blood Libel
By Charles Krauthammer Friday, March 5, 2004; Page A23
Every people has its story. Every people has the right to its story. And every people has a responsibility for its story. ...[snip]
Christians have their story too: the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ. Why is this story different from other stories? Because it is not a family affair of coreligionists. If it were, few people outside the circle of believers would be concerned about it. This particular story involves other people. With the notable exception of a few Romans, these people are Jews. And in the story, they come off rather badly.
Because of that peculiarity, the crucifixion is not just a story; it is a story with its own story -- a history of centuries of relentless, and at times savage, persecution of Jews in Christian lands. This history is what moved Vatican II, in a noble act of theological reflection, to decree in 1965 that the Passion of Christ should henceforth be understood with great care so as to unteach the lesson that had been taught for almost two millennia: that the Jews were Christ killers.

The current climate seems to me to be very against traditional values in the abstract more then simply against Christians. I can tell you that I have spoken up against what I see as the persecution of the Boy Scouts because of their religious views. I am outraged at the attempt to strike the words "under God" from the pledge. I respect Christian and other religious values in our culture and am in no way a secular Jew.
What I resent is any undercurrent of the "my religion is right" and all others are wrong type of stuff. Lots of this comes from Muslims and Christians. None of this comes from Jews. We just want our religion to be left alone and our people to be free to live and worship in peace. What is so hard for you to understand?
Are you implying that I am a Communist because I am a Jew who disagrees with your Christian beliefs? Are Charles Krauthammer. Mona Charen, David From, and other Jewish Conservatives now considered unwanted "Communist" trolls because we have the nerve to disagree with Gibson's movie??

Don't you believe your religion is right?
Election is due to the Father and the Father alone. That's Bible-101.
Thanks rummygirl.
Cheers to our Christian friends and judges. Thanks for pointing out the error of our ways in your eyes. Best we sit back and take the slurs lest we appear overwrought. Thanks again.
We don't preach that so it is a moot point. At any rate, Jews are such a small minority that you can not comprehend what it is like to have the vast majority of people that you respect referring to what your beliefs are as not only "wrong," but doom you to the fires of hell. It does not so much matter to me as it does annoy me that this view is accepted as "mainstream" and in no way meant for Jews to take any offense. Can you not see that being in a small persecuted minority destined for extinction might make these disagreements a little more sensitive? Can you not comprehend that on your Christian majority protected perch?
Jews are all wrong and vitriolic in perceiving antisemitism where it doesn't exist. We must stop being so sensitive and emotional according to our Christian friends. I can't believe how overwrought we are!! Cheers to our Christian friends and judges. Thanks for pointing out the error of our ways in your eyes. Best we sit back and take the slurs lest we appear overwrought. Thanks again.

Of course I believe that my religion is right. That is not the point oh righteous one. Believe whatever you want, I respect that. However, I will not sit back silently while Christians declare that they are the ones who are "right" and Jews must accept Christ as their savior or be destined to hell. I'll leave it to G-d to judge and not be so presumptuous.
I must say that it is my belief that whoever is right or wrong in the Christ debate is of little consequence to the Almighty. He will accept all that are truly good and not condemn those that meant well but were "wrong" in their Christ beliefs to eternal damnation..
G-d is more benevolent and true in my religion then yours. I will never accept any intolerant Christian ways, thankfully.
Say goodbye you ignorant fool.
So, it's okay for you to believe your religion is right, but if I believe mine is, I'm intolerant (and we all know tolerance is everything!) and arrogant.
Okey dokey.
Interesting that you think God is "more benevolent and true" in your view than in mine. I would never have said that to you. I wouldn't have even thought of saying it. And for the record - I believe God is very benevolent...so benevolent that He sent His only Son to die for my sake.
For someone who seems to play the victim card with ease, you sure can fling it.
Because it needed to be repeated.
In bold.
