Khan is an extremely common surname in Asia. From the dictionary: Khan (n.) A king; a prince; a chief; a governor; -- so called among the Tartars, Turks, and Persians, and in countries now or formerly governed by them.
Perhaps the most famous Khan in history was Jenghiz Khan, the Mongol emperor whose Goldern Horde conquered most of Asia.
