The Mind of George Soros Meet the Esperanto enthusiast who wants to save the world from President Bush.
BY JOSHUA MURAVCHIK Wednesday, March 3, 2004 12:01 a.m.
"I have made rejection of the Bush doctrine the central project of my life," announced George Soros in January. "I am determined to do what I can," he added, to assure that President Bush is not re-elected. Coming from someone else, such statements might be written off as delusional, but Mr. Soros is a man with a record of achieving outsized goals. A financier who began with a stake of a few thousand dollars, he traded and speculated his way to a fortune of many billions, making him one of the world's richest men. Then he turned to philanthropy, an enterprise he undertook with so much largesse and so much panache that he quickly won a place for himself alongside the likes of Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller in the pantheon of legendary donors. Mr. Soros has declared his intent to devote similar energy and single-mindedness to his new "project." Campaign-finance regulations may place stringent limits on donations to candidates--and now, with the McCain-Feingold law, to political parties as well--but they still allow unlimited donations to so-called independent political committees (though the Federal Election Commission is mulling new regulations on these groups, also known as 527s). According to reports last November, Mr. Soros had already pledged $18 million to three liberal anti-Bush groups of this kind, announcing that "If necessary, I would give more." As he sees it, "America, under Bush, is a danger to the world. And I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is."

I always thought it was weird for a rich guy who made it in America to trash Bush.

I find it troubling that this self-described "stateless statesman" is being allowed to meddle in our politics, big-time. The Bush campaign should be able to use this in their ads, that there is an attempt by a ruthless internationalist businessman to take over our government.

Soros was released from the Soviet bloc at age 17 to go study economics in Britain. From there, he immigrated to America, set up his financial business and has proceeded to fund ultra-left, one-world, anti-American projects ever since. Only in America do we allow our enemies into our midst, allow them to prosper in our system, and allow them to knife us in the back.

So Soros wants his legacy to be about his "great intellect," on the order of Einstein.
Sorry Soros, but you have to have at least ONE original idea to be considered a brain. So far, I haven't heard any original ideas.
You may be good with money, but that book of yours about the bubble of American supremacy is laughable. I think I wrote better stuff when I was a freshman in high school.
And we all know that the social justice and international cooperation you are talking about is just repackaged communism. We aren't that dumb.
So, let the experts handle the foreign and economic policy and you stick to that stuff you now call "philanthropy" (is MoveOn considered philanthropy?).

Your "ruthless internationalist businessman" is another Citizen of the World...Bill Clinton considers himself such...these citizens have no feelings of 'home'; no roots and no sovereignty nor loyalty to anyone but themselves and their ability to gain power through the dollar in its many names. They are the Pied Pipers, the Kokopellis of the world who lead others off to their mythical, seemingly magical Utopias but keep in mind there is no place they call home; nothing they stand for or feel a pride for, as in a brotherhood of race or nationality.
This citizen of the world would take my country and attempt to make it over into his own image of what he thinks is right for me? President Bush is the right man to lead in these times and he is doing it exceedingly well regardless of what George Soros with his money and blinded followers think...Mr. Soros is far from being a twit, however his philosophies are a bit of pie-in-the-sky while his abilities to make money is enviable in some quarters, he remains a dangerous man to freedom and liberty acting like a freelancing dictator.

Given some of Bush's current positions on domestic policy, I don't think he needs Soro's help. Bush is doing a good job of wrecking his own conservative base.

Brian Lamb interviewed Soros on C-SPAN's BookNotes this weekend. I watched about a half hour of it. Bottom line: Soros is no genius -- far from it -- he doesn't have an original thought in his head.

Soros needs to be deported immediately and his citizenship needs to be taken away

(It is now more important then ever that we re-elect President Bush)
To: NotchJohnson
This man is really fascinating. Think of him as a Plato affectionado who wants to be a "Philosopher King." He made all this money. He knows all these powerful people. Yet no one is asking him to run the world. How discouraging!
His basic weakness is he has no grasp of the culture that he lives in, the values of ordinary people not any idea as what is possible. He only has the belief that he has an important, messianic mission not satisfied by following someone else.
To: shrinkermd
Actually someone shoud take Soros on. I watch C SPAN too. He really hates anyone in power and is really stuck on himself. The way to unmask him is to point out how he wants to rule as a "philosopher king." He is used to being treated deferentially because of his wealth. For politics sake, let us end this deferenc.
To: NotchJohnson
For the breadth and imagination of his giving, Mr. Soros has been widely, and deservedly, praised. A reviewer in the New York Times did not hesitate to call him "one of the great men of our times." Never shy about his own accomplishments, Mr. Soros has basked in this adulation. He calls himself a "stateless statesman." Referring to the region where he concentrated his philanthropy, he declares unabashedly that "the former Soviet Empire is now called the Soros Empire."
He may be rich but he sure does not sound humble.

The Mind of George Soros I don't agree with him on much, but I'd hate to play a chess game against him. I'm sure there's a Forrest Gump quote that fits, but I can't think of it.
